Decanted for 3 hours, paired with grilled salmon and roasted vegetables. Still drinking well, bright notes cola and rhubarb, acidity holding up, have one more bottle, should drink before end of year, just about to be over the hill.

PnP and left open for 4 hours. Amazingly similar to my last bottle 5 years ago. Fresh, vibrant fruit with beautifully balancing structure. Seems to be evolving slowly as the fruit was rounder/fleshy and there was some light orange/brown in the rim and earthy/dried leaf notes hinting, which was not noted last time. Drink or continue to hold. Saw EWarren note on 99 Epenots on same night -- glad I have these village wines to drink while waiting on the 1er cru.

Gave this a three hour decant and would not be afraid to give this a longer decant for future bottles. Bright, high toned red fruit with some earth tones and acid. This has years left. Nice Beaune wine

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 – 3 hours on Day 1; brief sip on Day 3 --
NOSE: medium expressiveness; high-toned – almost a touch sour-smelling; red-fruited; old wood furniture; hint of diesel. Oxidized mess on Day 3.
BODY: lots of fine particulate matter present; blood red color of medium depth with some bricking throughout; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: fine tannin is drying; medium+ acidity; leathery and earthy; light aged red fruits – thinner than I'd prefer; bitter and earthy – almost a touch metallic; past peak; sweetened-up a bit with air; leafy aspect; gentle woodsy spice; gross, oxidized mess on Day 3. I probably would have scored this higher a few years ago. Drink Now.

This wine is very structured still, but also has a nice balance of fruit, tannin and acid. Next time I will be sure to decant for a few hours, as it was showing its best after being opened for several hours. Leather, raspberry and molasses all come through.

Quite tannic and backward, not a typical village wine. Stern when first poured, this wine needs air. It came around nicely with coq au vin, needing the food and sauce to tame it - lovely dark berries, smoke and sous bois. After dinner, on its own, I thought I detected the faintest trace of cork in this bottle. With more air, it was gone (the wine remaining resolutely tannic), so perhaps it just needs a long decant. It definitely has the muscle to last, but that faint cork taint worries me seeing a few others have had bad bottles. Still an impressive wine - check it again in the next 5 years with big food - steak, bouef bourgignon etc..

Light, clear ruby red color. Nice nose of cherry fruit with with a bit of barnyard funk. Great on the palate with expansive pure cherry flavors and a silky smooth texture. Fully resolved tannin with a nice burst of acidity from mid-palate to the satisfying finish. This is a recent purchase that was obviously well cared. In a perfect drinking window, so I see no reason to wait with my remaining bottles.

In the pocket, not likely to improve but this btl could have go on for at least a few more years. Fading raspberry, tart cherry, mineral and intriguing tertiary forest floor notes. Fun tasty mature red Burgundy with character. I'd rather spend $45 again for this experience versus a lot of boring sameness you get from way too many domestic PNs. 12.5% alc.

Super example for a basic AOC quaffer. Sorry to see the flawed examples listed below. The bricking was modest. Musty nose with tertiary elements front and center. Left half of the bottle in the fridge and finished on day 2. No evidence this was heading downhill but no reason to hold more than 2-3 years assuming proper storage.

We gave it a brief decant before dinner and it was completely open for business when we got to it. Typical raspberry, dirt and sous bois with a lushness that fortold of years yet ahead for it. Very nice indeed.

This is chunkier and more robustly/primarily fruity that the '99 Bourgogne I've enjoyed a few times recently, and I enjoyed it less than that one. Makes me think I'd prefer this with another few years on it.

As good as the bottle 18 months ago, and for a wine now that has passed its 15th birthday, it remains as fresh as something 10 years younger. Floral, with cherry fruit and no browning of color or any aged notes, it's just cruising right along being a great drink. At $40, it remains such a steal for me.

Nose had me going for the start, there is scent of wild grains and mint. Palate has a cherry core and a big blast of crushed mint, brush, and iron with tobacco and menthol ending. Tannic structure still firm. Super complex. Very interesting. My WOTN because of the uniqueness of this Pinot.

PnP with reductive stink blowing off quickly and only a small degree of evolution needed beyond that - followed for 3 hours. This was much better than from my note 3.5 yrs ago. Rounder fuller red fruit, yet cut with brilliant structure. Very harmonious, mineral, somewhat tense and delicious. Good 'yardstick' for Gaunoux drinking windows, this being a village wine getting great in 13-14 according to CT.

A wow wine from a humble region, though supposedly premier cru juice is in here. Tobacco laced red fruit is juicy and seamless. The harsh acidity has melted away, drinking great right now.

Fairly young appearing with just a hint of orange tint to the predominate medium ruby. Nose mostly of earth and tobacco. The palate is complex for this level with dark fruit, earth, tobacco, mineral and a prominent black tea flavor on the back end which persists to the fairly long finish. Good food wine, and a bargain at 39 dollars.

Tough and still primary on first taste but by the end of the first glass it shows some wild mushroom and light soy with brooding, rustic, dark tannins and sweet leather under a mix of rich cherry and tart cranberry. In addition there is a light purple/black plum flavor which is really interesting. This wine is just now exhibiting faint signs of maturity but I would not be surprised to see this go many more years. Time to bury my others.

Still fairly tight, it has a nose of tart raspberry and graphite. On the palate, it's got fine acidity, medium body and a good core of fruit. This'll easily go another 3-5 years I think, and will probably get better.

Ah, this wine is drinking so great at this stage. I re-tasted this mutiple times and the class of the vintage shows. Fresh, balanced, bright red fruits, acid, herb, yet still some structure in the finish. 40 bucks--winner.

Another solid bottle from Gaunoux. I'm not sure all the critical praise heaped upon this domaine is worthy, but this village Beaune is a great effort. Slightly rustic, as it should be, with a mushroom/autumn leaf bouquet. The acid pumps throughout from sip to finish, I'd give it an hour of air.

Darker than expected. Initially tight and austere. Decanted and after 2hrs nose completely different. Blue fruits dominate. Palate picked up weight. High toned fruit profile. Nicely balanced between minerality, acidity and phenolic compounds. Long finish. Drink very nicely now and likely over next 3-5yrs

at Pinot Brasserie in LV - this was very complementary to the fish we enjoyed, nice burgundy, slight funk, did tighten with air a bit, considering I carried it around all day after transport from LA, it was good value, but nothing i would go out of my way to taste.

Bottle, cork and fill all pristine. This is a beautiful, strong wine for the traditionalist. Popped and poured into large Riedel burg glasses, this has excellent acidity, weight and balance. It is made for dining, so avoid tasting it in a line-up. A nice big ribeye steak, stewed tomatoes, roasted corn and fried onions absolutely needed a wine like this with backbone and a sense of place. A very pure expression of burgundy with violets, blackberry and earth. It tightens up with air, so enjoy it now without decanting or save it - it should last for a very long time. Lovely wine.

PnP. Light garnet, ruby. Nose was a bit muted with cherry/red fruit and hint of spice(?), floral (?) earth(?) notes. Palate displays medium light intensity fruit that is bright/fresh with building acidity that has a small dose of underlying mineral. Agree with others that this approaches the 'tart' border near the finish, but is no issue with food, which on both nights this wine seemed to enhance. On night two the wine had more fruit expression and earth notes, so I am definitely planning to decant the remaining bottles if opened in the next few years.

This wine was serially tasted in double-blind fashion over a two-hour period at Vintage Wines, Ltd. The bottle was kindly provided by Dan Ballard. The robe is medium red/garnet and the nose shows muted aromas of cherries and pomegranate. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with medium-to-high acidity and cherry flavors. The middle palate suffices but the medium-length finish flirts with that crisp/tart boundary. This is not going to get better. Drink now-12/12.

Ruby red color. Nose dusty, with some berries. Palate initially a bit nondescript but opened up after an hour or so. Tannins have integrated, high toned cherry fruits with soft mid palate, good acidity giving the wine some brightness but stops short of being attacking, definitely agree with tobacco notes on finish. Overall a nice light drinking Burg, great for a Sunday night, though not a show stopper.
