Sat upright for weeks, bottom of cork fell into the bottle so poured slowly into a decanter. Decent amount of sediment left behind, but still quite a bit in the decanter. At first musty, some leather, dried cherries. Opened up slowly, the more musty aromas blew off, more dried fruit, tannins still present on the palate. Second day it was rounder, tannins softer. Shame the sediment hadn't settled more, I suspect it would have been even better!

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #098; A Vertical of 17 vintages Poujeaux (By MM): Beautiful bouquet with still some cassis and red berries, sweet smoke, tobacco, leather and beautiful oak. On the palate juicy red berries, forest floor, good acidity and a touch of sweetness. The tannin is soft and still has some bite. Considering the vintage the wine performed above expectations. Completely ready, but no extreme hurry to drink it; over the next two years is probably wise. 88 – 89

Short description: perfect cork, healthy color, noseof leather and herbs, graphite, medium body, very settled down (not tired but also not exuberant any more), medium finish. Healthy but no need to wait. Just a quite classic and decent claret that is fully developed. Drink now. Excellent.

My favorite wine from Moulis. Due to the suggestion from the owner of the Chateau, We opened it 5 hours and decanted it before drink. Very surprise !! nice aroma, mild cassis, flowers, butter cookie, good deep and clean. Well-balanced, smooth and delicious, more than I expected. Aftertaste is quite deep and dry, long finished too. ( 91+/100 ) IMO, Poujeaux is more complex than Chasse Spleen.
Chateau Poujeaux 1994, 12.5%

Deep black cherry color, with only a very faint hint of garnet at the rim. Nose is still quite fruity, almost primary, with just a touch of earth and barnyard. Palate domintated by surprisingly copious sweet cherry, a bit of chalky mineral, and little else. Not much structure remains, very simple, but nothing is grossly out of place. Drinkable. Faded quickly in the glass.

Deep red color. Sharpe nose, closed, needs time to breath. Earthy, flinty, lead pencil, light to medium body, backward, plenty of tannins, before breathing finish almost acidic. After breathing, it softened and opened up considerably.

20€ at auction, old school and traditional, quiet tannic and need time to open. very classic. drinking well now, even better with food. But not as sexy or perfumed as Haut bailly 1993 that day.

Still a very dark ruy color with almost no lightening. Needs still a lot of time. Very passive nose and closed on the palate. Drank over two days but didn't offer too much in terms of fruit concentration or complexity. A prime example of a closed wine. But the potential to develop into a reasonably good drink is clearly there. Drink 2008 to 2018

Excellent Bordeaux! Nose full of berries, herbs, pepper and oak. Consistent in taste. Decanted in glasses for about 2 hours before drinking.

Nice melt tanins. A lot of fruits for that vintage!

Classic style Bordeaux. Good wood combined with black currants and even some lead pencil. Very drinkable, but needs time to open up.

Etwa 2 Stunden vorher geöffnet. Etwas verhaltene Nase; perfekter Zapfen, fleischiges Aroma, mittlerer Abgang, schöne Tannine und Süsse

Barnyard in the bouquet as well as black currants and good oak. In the taste good harmony between fruit and oak. Very good wine.

Backward bouquet, but a powerful wine. Lots of good bitterness and fruit. Creamy. This will be a good wine.
