Beautiful and mature bouquet with still some cassis, earth, leather, tobacco, sweet spices and some licorice. On the palate still some red fruits and cassis, sweet spices, a firm amount of (old age) acidity and soft, slightly drying tannin. Very mature, but still a pleasure. Drink up.

  • 1994 Château Poujeaux 89 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

Beautiful bouquet with still some cassis and red berries, sweet smoke, tobacco, leather and beautiful oak. On the palate juicy red berries, forest floor, good acidity and a touch of sweetness. The tannin is soft and still has some bite. Considering the vintage the wine performed above expectations. Completely ready, but no extreme hurry to drink it; over the next two years is probably wise. 88 – 89

  • 2000 Château Poujeaux 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

Compared to the other vintages the color is quite dark and vital with still an almost purple hue. In the bouquet still youthful as well with creamy cassis and other dark forest fruits. On the palate creamy red and dark berries as well, good acidity and round tannin. There is still plenty of future in this wine. Until 2019 at least. 91 – 92.

Flight 4 (4 Notes)

  • 2005 Château Poujeaux 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

Pure creamy cassis in the bouquet. Same on the palate, some laurel and tobacco as well. Firm acidity and sticky tannin. Concentrated wine with a good length. The first signs of development are there, but the wine is still a bit too young. Wait until 2018 or 19 and it will drink nicely until at least 2025+. 91 – 92.

  • 2006 Château Poujeaux 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

In the bouquet cassis and other dark forest fruits as well as some minerality. On the palate red and dark forest fruits, licorice, laurel, tobacco, cedar, a firm dose of oak and also some green impressions. Good acidity, some sweetness and juicy tannin. Still a very good wine, but tasting this after the 2005, this is several steps down. The wine is still a bit too young. Wait until 2017+. 89 – 90

  • 2007 Château Poujeaux 87 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

Most prominent in the bouquet as well as on the palate is the firm dose of toasted oak. There is also cassis. A firm amount of acidity and ok tannin. About today’s bottle in the current stage I am not so positive. It looks a bit like a forced effort to make something out of “nothing”. This might be a bit too negative, but if I had any I would wait at least until 2019 to see if things fall into place. For today I scored the wine 87.

The bouquet is a bit locked but shows some creamy fruits and beautiful vanilla/oak. On the palate juicy cassis and other dark forest fruits, some clove and beautiful oak. Good acidity and firm tannin. Still a bit too young. Wait at least until 2018. Will last until well into the 2020’s. 89 – 90

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Château Poujeaux 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

Last wine of a 17 vintages vertical. (All tasting notes are in CT now.) This 2009 is a completely different style; much more modern….. or is it the vintage? I have a few, so I will find out after some years. My notes for tonight: In the bouquet a lot of creamy and round cassis as well as a good dose of beautiful oak. On the palate ripe cassis, plums and blackberries. A lot of luxurious oak. A firm amount of sweetness, but also good acidity. Friendly and soft, round tannin. Overall a beautiful wine which needs a few years of ageing, but I wonder if it has the persistence of the 2005. 91 - 92+? for tonight.
