Same as last year's note, if not a bit better. Earthier. Very light sediment. Aired in decanter for 3 hrs. Ever so slightly browning rim. Bumped up the scoring for the better, $52 price (after tax). Beautiful BdM. Outstanding QPR.

My note from 2015 was spot on as this wine got better over the following decade. Nose is subdued with just some faint earthy and leather aromas.
Palate is more lively. Bright red and dark cherry fruit is perfectly balanced by Tuscan earth/leather, orange peel, and faint garden herbs. At 19 years, it has become more elegant, but still shows no signs of fading fast with good energy/lift. In a good mature phase now with the tannin mostly integrated, but based on this bottle, no hurry, drink now -2030.

Unlike my experience just two months ago, I feel like tonight this wine was tired, gritty, tart and past its prime. Such a disappointment when compared to just a couple of months ago. A bad bottle somehow?

PnP. Very good right away. Better after 30 min. Nose: very good 9/10. Palate: 9/10. Full bodied. Butter cookies, iron, hint of vanilla. Milk-like, dense texture. Soft, velvety, mouthcoating tannin. Medium-low acidity. Finish: 8/10 - wish it longer. Price paid: 8/10 ($89 in 2022). Enjoyment: 10/10. Past peak: nope. Drink now. Would buy again: yes. Delicious.

Ruby red in color. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, road tar and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Rustic and powerful with more than enough fruit to keep the tannins in check. Dried cherries, anise, menthol and tobacco on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Outstanding Brunello that is shining at 17 years of age. The wine got better as the night got longer and should continue to drink well for another 2-4 years.

This is currently firing on all cylinders. Very aromatic with plum, tobacco, cedar, and a forest herbal quality that is savory and delightful. Super silky tannins and very well balanced. Outstanding.

Over the months of lockdown we have drank several bottles of this one. We prioritised it as it is already 16 yr old, but actually it doen't feel like turning, it will probably remain good or even better for another few years. We (AC, SC, KC: ) do like it a lot. it's old and mature, complex but not too complex. What shall I say? it's a Brunello ! There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is medium. The wine finishes medium.

Dried blood red color. Medium body. Leather on the nose though not much aroma. Jolt of bright acidity. Dark cherries. No stewed fruit. Long finish. Really a pleasure to drink.

Enjoyable wine. This had come together. Good amount of fruit - ripe plum, with a good fine tannin and a leather hit. Medium bodied. Enjoyable to drink and changed in the glass over a few hours. Drinking well now but still has more to go.

This has aged well. Took about an hour to start to shine. Sweet cherry, leather and a touch of cinnamon on the nose. Spice, minerals, leather a touch of mint and maybe a hit of licorice and loam. Great mouthfeel with a long finish. Still has some noticeable tannins which I think contributes to the mouthfeel. I corvined a glass two weeks ago and didn't enjoy it nearly as much, probably didn't give it enough time. Finished the bottle around the 3.5 hour mark and it kept getting better and better. I think it is in a very good place right now but I would not be in a hurry to drink if I had more bottles. Very nice bdm.

Opened, but did not decant, 2 hours before dinner. Brownish red color with slight amount of sediment. On nose, orange rind, tobacco, mushrooms, soy and sweet cherry. On palate, medium body, high acidity and integrated tannins with a very long finish (mouth watering acidity). Soy, iodine, sweet & sour cherry on palate. Loved this. Not as good as an '04 Il Poggione (Riserva) enjoyed weekend prior but a very nice bottle. 94+/- This has really improved with age and should go a while longer.

No specific notes. Although this was excellent on the first day, it improved on the second. On the first day it showed black cherry and blackberry with notes of savory spices and earth, with moderate tannins and good acidity on the medium to long finish; on the second day the tannins were gone, cherry predominated, and the finish was even longer. This should continue to improve for some years. The Cellartracker drinking window is too short, as often happens. This was an excellent value at under $50.

Slightly browned medium-garnet red. Cloyingly sweet honey, blood orange, powdered sugar, prune juice, and fig preserves on the nose. Notes of acidic blood orange, slightly green raspberries, and a general sourness. Interesting and unusual.

Opened an hour and a half before dinner which consisted off pan roasted chicken seasoned with basil and oregano and a side of oven roasted fennel. The nose was all dark cherry. The palate was dark cherry, plum, leather and hints of tobacco. The finish was moderate to long. The last glass was the best as that was a toast to my grandson celebrating his 5th birthday.

Dark colour, showing a little age but not much. Tart cherry then moss on the nose. Palate is beautifully balanced. Some soft subtle plump dried fruit - figs come to mind is matched by soft refined tannins. Finish is good with structure and some more tannins which indicate a few more years left.

Recommend PnP. Probably at peak. Better than 2 years ago. Fruit has now completely integrated leaving a nice nose of forest leaves, oak, currants. Palate is medium to full bodied, firm and complex, with some drying tannins. Very little sediment.

Prior bottle was almost a year ago and this bottle showed noticeably better (in line with some of my prior bottles), showing me that the showing from July 2018 was most likely negative bottle variation. Black cherry, earth spices and hints of red cherry on the nose. A touch over medium bodied with black cherry and black raspberry upfront that were both silky and elegant. Mid-body showed both better depth and better integration. Backside continues to show blackberry, tart black cherry and some tart red cherry. Finish shows balanced spices, earth leather and mineral notes. Overall, the wine felt integrated with the fruit fully expressed and nicely backed with structural and contrasting notes. Taking this bottle as a better example of where this wine is today, it feels like it still has a few years left at this peak level.

The wine has definitely matured in the past 4 1/2 years since I tried a bottle. Opened 3 hours before dinner then poured through a vintorio. The nose is all fruit. The palate was dark cherries, red plums, leather and just a tinge of spice. The finish was moderate in length and smooth.

Decanted for about an hour. Burt amber color. Beautiful and unmistakable BdM nose. Earth, mushrooms, licorice, cola and cherries. Tannins seem to be mostly resolved, but remind you they’re still present near the finish. A finish that’s drying but mouthwatering at the same time. This is my first of this vintage, but it’s drinking really well and I can see this lasting another 5-10 years easily as there’s still plenty of fruit, acidity and tannin.

Prior bottle was almost six months ago and this wine didn't quite show at the prior level (bottle variation, hopefully?). Black cherry, earth and leather on the nose. Medium bodied and drunk over the course of four hours, showing its best after the first two. More open and rounded black cherry now upfront, with black raspberry behind providing depth. Tart black cherry towards the back and finishes with earth, leather and minerals. Overall, the profile is similar, but if this bottle is any indication, it's begun to lose some of the elements that made this wine special. Shows less complexity, less mid-body concentration and dryness, rather than tartness is starting to creep in towards the back. Still drinking quite well, but in comparison to where it was, the difference has become noticeable. That said, it's in no danger of fading out of falling apart, but there no benefit to holding for any additional time. I plan to try a Riserva on Friday to get a complete read, but I suspect I will have my last bottle of this wine in Fall 2018.

Thought I had finished my OC of 6 of the 04 Lucere last year but found another bottle. Pnp and drank over 3h. The poorest showing of this wine over the last 6 or so years, and perhaps an indication that very ripe fruit does not necessarily age too well. Transparent garnet in the glass, on the nose menthol, herbs and dried black fruit. Palate with tar notes and somewhat burned dark dry fruit paired with medium tannins, aromatic but also quite rough and rustic overall. Would either drink up now or try your luck and wait another 5-10 years for those fairly rough tannins to perhaps mellow. I think the fruit here might dry out, but at some point in time, even the most tannic wines will come around, if they do not oxidize by then that is... An example of such a late blossoming being the ‘75 vintage in Bordeaux, which is drinking very well nowadays.

Wonderful progression from previous bottle four years ago. The dry chunky tannins have integrated and now velvet mouthfeel, ripe red fruit, and long lifted freshness. Delicious yet full of intensity.

Prior bottle was almost ten months ago and this wine remains in a very good spot. Black cherry and black raspberry on the nose. Opened two hours ahead of time and drunk over an additional three hours. Medium bodied now with silky and elegant black raspberry and black cherry upfront. Not quite as much depth or roundness through the middle as the prior bottles. Blackberry and tart black cherry towards the back with that slight burst of red cherry right before the finish. Retains the integrated spices, solid mineral qualities and the touches of earth and leather through the finish. Acidity and fine grained tannins provide enough structure to give the wine a solid backbone and enough acidity-based tartness to create very good contrasts. Overall, everything is holding up well, it was the loss of depth over the prior bottles which takes just a bit away from the velvety quality it used to show that marks it down just slightly. Remains an extremely good bottle, but drinking over the next 12-18 months seems recommended as it won't get better. Next bottle for me June/July 2018.

Decanted for ~1.5 hours. As we drank it, the fruit seemed to fade a bit, so don't over aerate. Nice mix of dark red and red (cherry) fruits, earth, spice, and a touch of herbs on the palate. These were more than balanced by tart acidity, mostly integrated (but some drying) tannins, in a medium bodied wine. As this wine ages, and the tannins become more integrated, the fruit may fade. So, decide where on the aging spectrum you like your Brunellos, and act accordingly.

Dark berries, cherry, leather, a little anise. A dense, chewy, well structured wine. Decanted for three hours, but it probably could have used a little more. I expected/hoped for a little more out of this, but it is still pretty good. I think it should be consumed over the next two years.

Last bottle from a case of six consumed over the last six years. Having had a fair number of Brunellos at their 20 and 30 year mark, I dare to guess that this will not improve from here. This has gone from a rather modern style fruit forward and rich Brunello in its youth to a seemingly traditional style with dried dark fruit, plenty of herbs and medium drying tannins now. A clean but fairly dark garnet in the glass almost seems to give an idea of what is to follow. Yes, the tannins will soften but I cannot see the fruit to fill the gap and allow the wine to improve. Would suggest to drink up. 92 (-)

Prior bottle was just over eight months ago and this wine continues to show extremely well. Takes two hours to open up and showed additional improvement over an additional two beyond. Black raspberry and cherry along with earthy and leather notes on the nose. Once it has fully opened up, so round and balanced it feels just a bit above medium bodied despite all the structure. Black raspberry and black cherry upfront showcasing wonderful balance, integration and depth. Nearly seamless transition to the backside where more tart, acidity based notes come in (blackberry, tart cherry and redfruit). Leather, integrated spices and mineral notes frame the finish. There's still plenty of structure here, both tannin and acidity based. As far as balance goes, I don't think this wine can improve any further. But based on where the fruit and structure are, should be able to hold this level for much longer than I may have originally anticipated. Next bottle in Summer 2018.

Pours a med>dark ruby, little sign of age. Takes some time after the cork has been pulled before the fruits emerge, in the meantime, plenty of soil, and dusty leather notes; once the fruit has emerged, all of these aromas integrate to a much more satisfying whole. The palate is med>full, kind of weighty and not so fresh, lifted. However, at the 90 minute mark, the wine finds its stride and has more harmonious composure. This was constantly a love-hate relationship for me. OK, maybe the highs/lows weren't quite that severe, but there were a lot of moments I was quite glad to be drinking it, and others, I wished I were not. Last year, when I met Roberto Giannelli at the estate he discussed the efforts that have been underway for a decade now, to better understand the soil/land, and improve quality year-over-year; things take time in Italia, though I've no doubt that Roberto and his time are following the proper course; hard work and considerable investment will get them where they want to be. I may open a 2010 Le Lucére tonight, I think it might be a solid data point as to their progress. 14,0% abv., drink thru 2027. Two hour aeration is advised. recommended
Served non-blind; solid value in today's secondary market.
Pretty highly extracted color, a riper fruit profile and a fair degree of oak puts this pretty squarely in the modern camp. Completely fined and filtered, so even at 13 years old, there was nearly zero sediment and it seemed to strip a bit of the soul out of the wine. While this was well made, it was really pretty boring. It has all the classic Sangiovese notes, but never really achieves any heights beyond "correct". This should hold for several years and maybe develop some tertiary notes, but I can't see this evolving into anything special.

Deep burgundy red. Dark red berries with PnP and a little acidic. After 30-60 minutes, it is a smooth and integrated wine, fuller bodied than Chianti. Better with tomato sauce with meat or prosciutto than with marinara sauce.

Expected more from this wine. Fruit was softened but present. Slight licorice bouquet and palate also. Better than average wine but not by much. think it was at peak. But no harsh edges nor funky flavors. Wondering how better their 2010 is. Drink now.
Double decanted 30 minutes for sediment and left uncorked another 60. Medium to full bodied, dark purple fruit, drying tannin. Smooth with a long finish. Paired well with pasta in fresh tomato sauce. Drink now with decant and over next 3-4 years.

Black raspberry and lots of floral notes on the nose. My last bottle was March 2015 and I think this wine is now at peak. Very close to full bodied with a wonderfully density and roundness. Drinking like black velvet at this stage. Black raspberry and black cherry upfront with both a lot of depth and still a good amount of brightness to the fruit. Backed with smoother, deeper notes of additional blackfruit behind and moving seamlessly and effortlessly into a long finish, accented by leather, integrated spices and minerals. The wine's balance and integration have both improved slightly since my last bottle and the mid-body seemed just a touch more open. Worth drinking over the next 2-3 years so you don't miss this wonderful peak experience.

First bottle of three purchased back in 2010. A very pretty translucent ruby in color, with a bit of bricking evident. Classic Brunello nose of dark fruits, leather, earth and flowers. Full-bodied, but very lithe and feminine in character. Bursting with tangy, delicious cherry and raspberry fruit, complemented beautifully by a vibrant acidity. Shows excellent depth and focus, without a lot of weight. Hints of citrus, mineral and spice linger on the long, mouth-watering finish. So elegant, refined and wonderfully balanced. An outstanding Brunello that is more traditional than modern in style. 50+5+12+17+8=92

Decanted. Dark in color with some bricking. Like many others, I noted cherry, floral, leather and earth notes. This was very sleek with an easy mouthfeel. Became more expressive with two hours in the decanter. Drink now with decant or hold.

This has stepped up a gear and is really strutting its ass right now - it has lost its more chunky notes and all those tea leaf and cherry notes are slipping out. Light in the mouth, with a whipped cream kind of element in there and then a tang of meat and orange peel. Very refined, very pure and just peeking into a reasonable enough drinking window that you dont feel as though you are killing this wine at birth.

I drank a bottle of this around a year ago and found it overly tart and unpleasant.
After tonight I am sorry that I wrote it off, and that I have no more bottles of this. The second bottle tonight still has hints of tartness to it, but it is toned down and luscious leather, earth, and dark cherry have emerged. Pleasant tannins and a lasting finish seal the deal. Serves me right for doubting.

Expressive nose of Bing cherry, leather, Tuscan earth. Cherry fruit, hints of wild berry hit you first, then lots lots of earth and saddle leather emerge mid-palette followed by more cherry and hints of cranberry on the finish where silky, but a little dry tannins emerge. Overall, the wine is quite tasty and food friendly. Very tight upon opening, it was still closed after a 2 hour decant, needed to use the Venturi to speed up the breathing so the wine was ready with dinner. I would say this wine could still evolve a bit more and easily hold for another decade. Stored in a temp controlled cellar after purchase.

1 hour decant. Browning throughout but doesn't taste like it. Fantastic perfume leads to spicy raspberry, summer flowers, Halls, a hint of blueberry pie filing, and a blatant dose of neutral oak. Put an exclamation point on a Star sausage, cornmeal crust deepdish and an MSU win to enter the final four.

Black raspberry, rose and other assorted floral scents on the nose. Becomes increasingly expressive the longer its open. Nearly full bodied, but so smooth. Very round, rich and dense, but carried the weight exceedingly well as it came off like black velvet. Deep black raspberry upfront along with brighter notes of black cherry behind. Just starting to add in hints of leather and menthol on the mineral driven, lengthy finish. Strengths of this wine were its smoothness, density and length and integration on the finish. Very impressive showing, but I believe it's not yet quiet at peak. There's plenty of fruit here and very good structure. In another 8-12 months, I expect further smoothing and more complexity as this wine really begins to express itself.

It's been over 2 years since I had this wine the last time and it has matured considerably. Poured into a decanter and drank over a few hours. The fruit has receded and this comes across now as a more traditional styled Brunello than how I recall the first two bottles. Initially slightly oxidized notes on the nose which however go away with more air time. More complex and earthy palate now with fairly strong herbal notes, leather and tobacco, some cherry and dried fruit. Fine to medium tannins. This will certainly hold up well over the next 10 or so years but have my doubts it will further improve. This was nice on its own (91-92) but really shined when paired with a Spaghetti Bolognese at home (94). Literally made for each other.

2 hour decant and drank over 2 hours. Wowser! Wonderfully perfumed; cherry, cut flowers, tar, menthol. Couldn't keep my nose out of the glass. Everything came together on the palate *2. Explosive cherry, tobacco deliciousness and a super long finish. This is a wine that deserves to be paired with delicious food. A special wine in a great place right now.

Slo-ox over 9 hours. This was tasty, but simple, on the PnP. The air really brought out some complexity, and even the last glass benefited on the nose from a swirl. Black cherry, leather, dried herbs. just getting a touch of menthol/eucalyptus at the end of the night. Nice acidity. Ridiculous pairing with B.W's short rib ragu. Drinkable now, but 5 more years won't hurt this.

Cellared from day one and was a pleasant surprise this evening. Extremely approachable now with cherry and plum notes. I don't think this wine needs much more time and is ready to go now. Decanted approximately one hour. No sediment.
Stored in a quiet place at room temperature (!) since release. This brunello is open for business right now, especially with an bout or two in the decanter. I do not think it will be evolving much more though it may improve a little bit over the next 3-4 years. Otherwise it feels like it will definitely hold for the next 5-6. On the nose and palate this is a bit more of a darker expression of Brunello. Beautifully put together with firmer than expected tannins, the fruit is definitely present with dark plum, black cherry, leather, and kitchen spice, without being overbearing. Acidity is ample and balanced. The medium length finish rolls out very nicely.

This has really improved from my last 2 tastings and as prior taster noted this is clearly in it's prime drinking window. Decanted for 2.0 hours and served with grilled lamb chops. Tar / menthol / black cherry / dirt / nail polish(?) on the nose - very complex. On palate, black cherry, touch of sour cherry / earthy with medium+ body (this has gained weight from prior tastings), high acids, nice tannic grip and very long finish. I was very skeptical of this wine given my last 2 tastings but this was a great showing. 93++

dark and a bit brawny for a brunello, esp on day one when it was still opening up, with potent, more black than red cherry and currant, plenty of earth, rhubarb and mineral; more open and typical on day 2 with some new found sweetness. Might have guessed that there was some syrah thrown in, esp on day one, but plenty of fun to drink in any case; note to self: hold the last bottle for a few years.

Similar to my prior note from 5/2010 - wine has improved but still 91+/-. Nose was more muted (decanted for 1 hour prior to dinner) this time but pretty complex - orange peel/red licorice / tobacco / black cherry. Medium+ acids / medium body / medium finish. Tannins very soft & well integrated. For remaining bottles will wait until 2013+ to drink.

Through a Vinturi followed by a 90 minute decant. Paired with pasta , red sauce and chicken sausages-definitely a food wine. The tannins still youthful but not overly so. Savory, satisfying and glad to have a handful left for further, future reflection. The 04 Brunello's continue to impress.

Opened in a moment of weakness knowing that this is way too young. At first this was clamped shut so tight it was hard to get anything out, but two hours in a decanter and this really starts to flower. Much lighter than expected - almost Barolo like nose of cherries, rasberries, tar and then beautiful coconut elements. Very fine tannins that protrude into the wine just a touch at the moment - much lighter than expected in the mouth - very nuanced and will be quite something if allowed to rest for another few years. Excellent.

Distinctly horsey on the nose, but has fresh juicy earthy red berries on the palette. Nice ripeness and polished yet retains its brunello character, a nicely done middle-ground between modern and traditional. Dense, and very very tannic. Way too early, but opened up after some air in the glass. Long finish with lovely acidity.

Plenty of great descriptions already - what stood out about this wine was beautiful nose with spice, black fruit & floral elements. Was let down (relative to the ratings & the vintage) by the body of the wine (medium to light) and the palate - very balanced (was great with food) but did not have the power I had expected from this vintage. Look forward to trying more bottles in the future.

Deep garnet/crimson; cocoa, black cherries, blueberries, tar; juicy cherry, silky, medium-full body, good balance, good acidity, fine ripe tannins, lingering finish. Decanted 2 hrs. Elegant nose led to ripe, dried cherry flavour with velvety mouthfeel and finish. Continued to open up over dinner. Good ageabilty. Would pair well with meat lasagna.

nose: plush and expressive nose of dark red cherries, roasted herbs, iron, dark florals, spices and bits of mixed berries. A bit tight, this opened up nicely after a bit
taste: youthful tannins show themselves with a very good medium feel and medium/high acidity with balanced and plush tones of dark red cherries, herbs, spice tones and mixed berries
overall: this was a pop n pour and then was tried through a vinturi. The vinturi helped a bit on the nose, but not as much on the palate as this is showing off its youth. A couple of years and this should be a real nice brunello

Showing much better this time around. Notes were akin to the Spectator review: Bright raspberries, oranges, cedar plank and a touch of leather. With extended decanting, a beautiful tarry palate is cut by fabulous acidity, giving the broad, full palate an illusion of light weight through the very long finish. Very fine and sophisticated. Should develop for quite some time.
Hold. 92-94 -JRS

Medium to dark ruby colour. Nice but faint nose of smokey cherries. Really nice on the palette with dark full cherries with leather and all kinds of spices. Polished without eliminating rusticity that I like. In my view it's drinking great as the tannins, while dense, are very smooth and seamless. I hope the 04 brunello that I actually have in my cellar are as good as this!

Plums on the nose with the leather note mentioned by previous reviewer. Mouth is rich, though still a little hot, with licorice and dark red fruits. Young with great potential, maybe wait 3-4 years for next bottle.

Decanted 2 hours. This is a very young wine that should gain complexity with time. Good weight, nice backbone, and good polish for such a young wine. Dark fruit (cherry, blackberry) in the mouth with a touch of sweetness on the finish where soft tannins kick in. Nose of dark fruit and a whiff of basil. Hold.

There is no other word for this right now but " baby". I knew this would be young but curiosity got to me. The color was a nice ruby. There were some real nice raspberry and some leather notes, but it was not giving much right now. Ultra-fine tannins and the structure of this wine was made for long term cellaring. Patience will be rewarded. JD 93-95 (Best from 2013-2025)

taste: Great round feel with lovely and balanced tones of leather, dark red cherries, all sorts of berry tones, black spices, and dark herb tones. Good tannins that aren't in the way, but definitely there
overall: A real lovely young brunello. Nice and round with a good firmness to it. While young, this was fairly accessible which would be expected from Fanti. It doesn't have the super big fruit that Fanti can bring and is a very well balanced wine that should turn out beautiful in time

Paid $47.00 for this in 2010 - what a bargain.

3/11/2017 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine:

overall: this was a pop n pour and then was tried through a vinturi. The vinturi helped a bit on the nose, but not as much on the palate as this is showing off its youth. A couple of years and this should be a real nice brunello
