Much like another contemporaneous Paso wine (2004 Garretson "Mon Amie" Syrah) opened alongside this one, this was distinctly over the hill. Overly roasted fruit has taken on an unpleasant bitter note. Should have been consumed at least a decade ago to enjoy its exuberant charms.

Surprising how much fruit is still left on this - I expected it to be earthier than it was. Deep, dark and inky with a nose full of cherries and intricate flavors that kept changing from when we opened it to when we finished it. Wonderfully complex and smooth. Stems up!

Loads of raspberry and spice. Lavendar nose and very fruity with a bit too much candied vanilla in the finish. Decent acid, but overall just not a very elegant wine. Seems a bit high in alcohol also.

Well this wine actually performed better than I expected in all. Im always concerned about how the over the top LC style would hold up and while Im not sure this one gained any by holding it certainly hasnt fallen apart. Nice nose and still big fruit, that has really mellowed though. Just a slight bit of porty/raisin on the front but not overwhelming. Tannin is resolved. Im still in favor of drinking my newer releases young.

I was a bit worried because liquid had just seeped up to the top of the cork, which had a slight vinegary smell. The initial nose on pouring was astringent, but swirling it in the glass brought out hints of richness and even floral notes. Lovely dark red-purple color. Sipping it brings a lightness, a bit of acidity, white pepper, and honey. Very little fruit, but quite pleasant and rich-tasting.

Note after 24 hours. Black pepper and spice on the nose. Big black fruits and licorice up front with a finish that is just a bit clipped. Still quite enjoyable though.

After a good hour in a decanter this wine shows the structure the we have come to expect from Linne Calodo. Ripe blueberries on the nose, wonderful velvety mouth feel. Medium tannins with black pepper on the finish. Love it!

This is in a great place now. Perfume of lavender and raspberry with a silky mouthfeel and fine tannic finish. Subtle herbs de provence add spice to the smooth glycerin mouthfeel.

Consumed at home with Bully burgers. Bright disc. Opaque purple robe with violet rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense aromas of ripe blackberries, animal fur, vanilla and earth. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity, huge (and somewhat dry) tannins and ripe flavors which mirror the nose. There is clearly a substantial amount of residual sugar in this wine, which is accentuated by the dominant, hot alcohol (with the label undoubtedly under-reportiing at 15%). Long but hot finish. This is yet another over-the-top Linne Calodo wine. If experience with other bottles of similarly-structured Linne Calodo offerings is any indication, I would not cellar this for more than another 2-3 years.

(from memory) Dark inky purple, big nose of ripe red fruit, camphor, cassis and assorted spices, big mouthful of jammy sweet fruit but with structure and nuance, long finish, not a syrah for the meek

Rhone Rangers at RHB: Blind Red 3 - Deep color, but translucent. Touch apricot-like on the nose, then almost corky. Sweet. Lots of potential, but as it was exposed to air it got more and more corky.

This wine is really starting to come around. The last bottle I had was about 9 month ago and it was tight and the finish was disjointed. After being open for 30 minutes, the nose was getting bigger and the finish was smoothing out. I will wait another 6 months to try another bottle as this wine is looking more promising.

Notes from memory: As always, a great wine. Ripe blackberry with a great white pepper and cedar spice. For as big as it is, it was very balanced and was a fantastic pairing with a smoked paprika rubbed flank steak. Drinking great now, but not going anywhere.

Again probably closer to a 90 but there was some roughness on the finish keeping it down. There was some acidity in the wine that could be an indication of improvement with further aging. Lots of dark fruit without any meat aromas or tastes. [~$35 on release; Popped and poured, a short decant would probably help this wine]

Wow...better than an 89 in my book. Decanted 4 hours. Deep syrah beefy nose...with grenache floral edges. Makes me want to jump in the glass. Deep blueberries, pine, floral, tannins...45 sec finish. I should have let sit 2 more years...fades in and out of being muted and expressive...the flavors don't catch up to the nose consistently. Well made.
I got an offer to join the LC Experience...which based off this (my first LC), I'll do.

Blueberry and plum. The Syrah takes the lead, coupled with very good acidity. My favorite LC so far. Not too sweet or overextracted. Not as restrained and complicated as a similar Tablas Creek. More fruit driven. Enjoyable.

Dark purple; plenty of plum, blueberry, and other fruit, but the sweet fruit is balanced with some spice, acid. The Syrah component shines through, but more elegant than many new world examples; pure and concentrated. This should last for a few years, but there is no reason to wait.

Deep berry flavors, with hints of clove and some spice, and undertones of smoke. Not as in-your-face as many Linne Calodo wines. I think this one will stay consistent over the next couple years.

Hmm ... purple/black, showing its syrah. Medium body and viscosity. Nose of sweet syrah blueberry ... no meat notes. This is quite young, so I'm not sure what my read is. It's not a big glycerin-laden, extractes syrah, and shows a lot of its mourvedre and grenache flavors (which is a complement). Right now it comes across a bit clumsy and tannic, but I think it's not even close to being worked out yet. Watch this space ... it could be quite good.

Mmm, more good stuff from the Trevisans. Medium bodied, this mostly Syrah-based wine had a big aroma of fruit and spice. On the palate it was initially a bit closed, and for the first 15 minutes I thought it seemed extremely thin on the mid-palate/finish. However, after letting it warm a bit and giving it some air, it became really dense, chewy, packed with black cherry, blackberry and clove. Good stuff, especially considering this is one of their "low end" wines!

Full deep purple red. Forward tight briary acidic black cherry aroma. Nice rich but balanced spicy black cherry fruit with just a hint of licorice / asphalt on the medium long finish. 5/05
