An absolute banger, top class Burgundy that managed to edge out mature examples of DRC, Rousseau, and Leroy grand crus on the table.
Wow I wish I had bought more 90's Dujac back when I started in Burgundy, these have turned out to be masterpieces - as was the wine served after it, a mind-blowing 90 CDLR. Words can't do this justice, this is the magic we seek in Burgundy...

Two wines served blind, one of which I knew to be a Roussseau Chambertin 1993, and this. I thought this more likely to be the Rousseau, more red-fruited, a touch sweeter in the middle. But they were remarkably close both in style and quality. Both dark, silky, subtle, full of life, perhaps not yet at their peak.

Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with tawny rims. The medium+ intensity nose offered up cola, smoked black cherries, minerals, and some forest floor.
This was medium bodied in the mouth with that attractive Dujac mouthfeel. It was well balanced with nice ripeness. While it was not heavy in any way, it had that slightly over-ripe element that many 93 wines display.
This was an excellent bottle. That said, I didn’t get the sense that is was going to be getting any better, which is a slight disappointment for a big-time bottle like this. Drink over the next 10 years.

Lots of praise being given to this wine, and it is lovely and classic Bonnes Mare with its earthy minerality and beautiful strawberry notes. Interestingly it started to become more tender after exposure to air. Power without weight in a great way!

In a flight of 93 Lignier CDLR and 93 Dujac CDLR, this wine was cranking. Earthy, stemmy, Dujac sweetness, and unlike many dank 93s I’ve come across the fruit was clean and soaring. Our side of the table loved this the most and the other side preferred the Lignier CDLR, which was a mystery to me, but that’s why we taste.

Zachys La Paulée BYO Dinner (Lafayette NYC): 93 Horizontal. Wow, an intoxicating and deep nose of stems, spice, clay, iron and mature red fruit. The palate here has so much power and concentration, while gliding effortlessly across the palate. Deeply flavored and complex. Wow.

Zachys La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Served alongside both Dujac and Lignier 1993 Clos de la Roche. Lots of earth and even more red fruit with spices galore. Rich and elegant with a long, finessed finish. So much better vs the bottle of this same wine I brought to this same event one year ago.

Wine Dinner at Atlas. No notes. Amazing experience/education in Burgundy (and others). This one stood out amongst giants- absolutely stunning in every way. So appreciative to have the opportunity to try this wine at this point in its life cycle. A thing of beauty top to bottom. Could have breathed the wine for hours. Thank you J.

Head-spinning nose of spice (cinnamon and Five Spice), florals and wild strawberries. The precision and poise is off the charts here. The palate is elegant with strawberries and spice, perfumed with good acid. There was a fear upon opening that this was corked, so I took a tiny pour for myself - long before I was ready to drink this wine (in the lineup). But I kept smelling the tiny pour for an hour - it filled the glass and kept making me smile with its beauty. Nose - 6/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5-2/2 = 18.5-19/20.

Alt Rieslingfeier (New York City, NY): This is an outstanding bottle of Burgundy. At first, I was a little worried that it was corked, but extended airtime proved that that was not the case. In fact, this wine did not show too well upon opening, and for most of the evening, this was a fairly understated wine. With extended air though, this grew into an expressive bottle of pinot, and definitely showed that stereotypical iron fist in a velvet glove characteristic. The fruit here seemed to play less of a starring role than in the Rouget. This was all about the earthy power.

Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): In very disappointing 88/90/93/00 vertical. I brought this tonight and was incredibly disappointed. There was a peculiar celery salt aromas that never went away, and i couldn't get past. Flavors and structure were good, but frankly not what I expected from this great wine.

Burgundy For Lunch Bunch Holiday Event 2023 (Phoenix, AZ USA): Served blind, all I could muster to write was "Holy sh*t!!!!" because I was giddy with delight and could hardly focus to write.

Burgundy, Bordeaux, and California - Dujac, PYCM, Lafon, Carillon, Niellon, Lafite, Latour, Mayacamas, Montelena, Mondavi, and more: Dear God this is glorious! Elegant loooooong finish. Exotic spice. So clean. This is a "prince of princes" grand cru. Pretty close to perfect. Dujac really made some magic in the '93 vintage.
