- Garnet color with medium forming legs and aromas of cherry, tea, tobacco and cedar. It's balanced and has flavours of cherry with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish - Decanted four hours.

Last of 9 bottles. Decanted (for sediment) and drank 30 minutes later. Dark red color. On nose, orange rind, floral, red currants and tart strawberry. On palate, tart cherry, strawberry, earth/ mushrooms and touch of tobacco/savory elements. Medium body, medium tannins (more integrated but still there) and medium acidity with a long finish. I thought this would have turned to prunes/leather with no fruit but I was wrong. Not a re-buy but this was an enjoyable bottle of wine at it's peak but good for another few years - at least. 92+/-

Decanted half the bottle for 1 hour. Very pretty wine. Fully integrated tannins but just entering its drinking window. Very refined with bright fruit and the typical “tar and roses” thing going on. Day 2 the fruit slightly faded but still very enjoyable

Improving. Last bottle was 8 years ago! But still this wine is in an iron glove with ironey minerality and hot stone on the nose. Still presenting itself with some unresolved tannins resulting in dryness on the finish. Not sure if these ultimately integrate or not but right now it still shortens the finish and requires food

Decanted for 2 hours, which it needed to open up and avoid all of the sediment.
Brownish red nose - threw tons of sediment. On nose, tree bark, sour cherry, tar and black cherry. On palate, similar flavor profile ex. tar and tree bark, although fruit is getting close to the dried/pruney spectrum - Full body, full tannins, high acidity and long finish. Paired great with a grilled ribeye. 91+/- A very masculine Barolo.

Came off more as a well built albeit very ripe sangio with lots of unresolved tannin. I think I had a bottle of this 5 years ago and it was far more closed down and austere which would lead me to believe another 5 years and this would be great. It was my last bottle and I won't seek out more, but if I had more, I'd wait.

I have had a lot of bad experience with "modern" style Barolo lately. At least 25% of mine have been corked, to one degree or another. Opened this and immediately was put off by the "bretty" smell and feared that this was yet another that was spoiled. Fortunately, the brett eventually dissipated with air time and this drank as it should. Big, rich, modern in style and very close to being overdone. Chock full of ripe, decadent black cherry fruit, but also quite pruny and raisny. Almost cloyingly so. Notes of chocolate, mineral, iron and oak linger on the long, complex, mouth-coating finish. Clearly well-made and paired very nicely with our standing rib roast, but this was just a bit ponderous and almost over-the-top. Not the style of Barolo that I prefer. 50+5+11+15+8=89

I did not enjoy this. The nose was ok but was very ripe and had alcohol warmth noticeable. The palate was over ripe and hot. Felt disjointed and out of sorts. Not what I’m looking for in a Barolo

Glass: Riedel Vinum Burgundy Drunk over 4 days from bottle just stored at room temperature. Cler, deep ruby-garnet color. Clean, medium intense and developing nose with some typical flavors of roses, tar, herbs and also cacao and licorice. Needs time to open up and is really nice. Dry, with varietal typical high acidity and tannin. Both are well integrated but the tannin starts drying after 2 days. On the palate nice flavors of sour cherries, espresso powder, tar and some floral notes. Good balance, medium length. I bought this for about 25 EUR so the PQR is really good. Will continue to develop over the next 5+ years, but I guess it will not survive a decade. 88-90

A color reminiscent of brandy believe it or not. Full and voluptuous. A nose of dried berries and sweet oak. Inescapably full in the mouth. Tannins suggest another decade of longevity; but no reason to wait that long. Not necessarily the wine of a lifetime but a wine that you could drink day after day and not tire of. Most folks wouldn't spend $37 for an everyday wine. That said, if you are committed to curating a cellar, don't think twice about this wine being so precious you don't want to open it. Pop the cork and enjoy. And by the way, don't bother with notions of decanting and letting it "breathe." Just pull the cork and pour a glass among your family and friends.

Decanted for 2.5 hours and served with grilled NY Strips.
Didn't take notes on color but noted a fair amount of sediment in the bottle. On nose, cherry, menthol, sour cherry, bark. Similar on palate with medium+ body, high acidity, stout tannins and a long finish. I really enjoyed. 93+/-

An afternoon of Italians (wine and people) (Vince & Lisa's): A nice showing for this wine. It is actually in a very nice place right now, perhaps a bit fast tracked for a 2005. The nose is dusty with cherries, some tar, some roses and some menthol. Fine, light tannins still on the palate. Juicy cherries. Some complexity. It drinks easily right now.

I mistakenly ordered 3 extra bottles of this wine - man am I happy - decanted for ~ 1 hour before dinner (grilled veal chop) and this was stunning. Was at a restaurant so didn't take notes - sour cherry / tar / menthol / nail polish on nose - full body with stout tannins (great with the veal). 93-94 range tonight.

A superb expression of Barolo. Decant for at least 2 hours and you will be rewarded. Plum, orange, mint, chocolate and tar wrapped up in a long and expressive finish. Was worried after 1 hour decant that I opened this 5 years too soon as tannins were gripping. 1 hour later this wine just relaxed and blossomed into a seductive integrated package.

This Barolo harkens back to the days of yesteryear. The big medium to full-bodied wine that delivers on all of he hallmarks of the Barolo region. Intense aromatics of roses and tea fill the glass prior to even swirling this intensely dark juice. One should decant for a minimum of one hour to enjoy the signature orange rind, tar and truffle flavors that echo for 2 minutes plus. This is great juice but with likely be appreciated more by fans of European styled wines as it is high in intensiy and has no oak. Cheers!

Hit two of these bottles this week because they are drinking so well. Classic La Morra femininity with supple crushed red fruit, undertones of ocean minerality, dried cocoa powder with notes of truffles and forest loam. Just terrific and 2005 Piemonte is in its hot-spot right now, La Morra especially. Great depth and complexity here with a long, mouth watering finish

Decanted for 3 hours before pouring back in bottle and consumed ~ 2 hours later with grilled steaks. Consistent with notes from 11/14/2010 from a flavor profile (although sour cherry / menthol is more noticeable). Without food this wine is not all that enjoyable given the stout tannins. I really enjoyed this again but it needs time or a long decant and some food to work with the tannins. 92+

More Weeknight Tasting in KW (Dave's House): Quickly decanted for sediment, served blind, followed for approximately an hour. On the nose, this is showing black cherry, spice, oak, with a hint of menthol and tar. On the palate, cherries and spice. Tannins are still quite massive, and there is some raging acidity. Finish is moderate. I note some bricking and sediment in my glass, so I thought there was a bit of age on this and I was pretty certain it was Nebbiolo. Overall, this was pretty simplistic, and does not appear to have the potential for improvement. Not a wine to sit and contemplate, but would be great to enjoy with a meal.

I thought this was quite stunning. More maculine in style than other Nebbiolos I've had recently. Richer blood orange, palate-coating with a fascinating mint-licorice note on the finish. Also, the oak is regal, drying and classic. This improved throughout the meal as it warmed and left me wishing I had more to enjoy.

Dried cranberries and spring lilacs on the nose with a chalky earth component and some clove and liquorish. No indication of oak on initial aromas. The palate is bone dry. Oak is very noticeable when tasting - has a chocolate fudge flavor with dried red berries, cran and raspberry, with a earthy minerality and aggressive tannins. Good finish but a little empty on the mid-palate. A very solid Barolo from an awesome producer.

Decanted for 3 hours. Had with grilled Ribeye. Dark red (darker than expected) color. Beautiful nose (with airtime) - tar, black cherry, licorice and rosepetals(?). Full bodied wine with great mouthfeel (flavors consistent with the nose), very rich acidity, and very noticeable tannins on the very long finish - this was excellent with the steak and surprisingly good on it's own. Under vacu-vin, did not move over 24 hours (edit - and after 48 hours still going strong - fruit starting to fade and bark / raisin type notes but still drinking very well). 92-94 range. If drinking now it needs a long decant.

Wines with Old friends (Hamilton, NJ): nose: lovely and perfumed nose of roasted herbs, red cherries, spice tones, some bits of mixed berries, wild strawberries and a touch of red florals. Very pretty with good depth on the nose that has a real expressive quality to it
taste: demure and pretty medium feel with chewy tannins and medium/high acidity with feminine tones of roasted herbs, red cherries, spice tones, wild strawberries, and bits of florals. Excellent depth, but shows off the youth of the wine a lot with the tannins and the big acidity
overall: In need of some time, this got about 5 hours of bottle air before drinking. Very aromatic and took some swirling in the glass to get going. Well balanced, and though it shows its youth, it isn't too inaccessible at this time if given a good decant

Dense but pure fruit. I love how pinot or nebbiolo can be so light in weight but instance in flavour. It is young, rather primary and slightly bitter on the finish but enjoyed this a lot. Wish I had bought more at Costco closeout!

No idea of color (brought to a dimly lit byob in Collingswood). Amazing nose in the glass of perfume, plum and mission figs, with hints of dried dates. A full palate, initially persistent tannins (almost puckering) dominate the mouth. With time this came more into balance, but was still a large component of the mouth feel of the wine. Muscular body wine with long finish. I really like this wine, and with the tighly wound tannins, I'm excited about it's potential over the next ??? years (not sure how long I can hold out on the 2 bottles I have!). Just searched where I can get more. Luckily in NJ a well priced bottle is never too far away!

Italian Night (Binny's Lincoln Park): Pretty strawberry, light spice. Gripping big tannins. Young.

Wish I had bought more at Costco closeout!

very nice but with more of a bitter tannin finish than I preffer. Not as harsh as a spanish wine... Bought 1 bottle to lay down for 10 years and see if that fades (then I'll know what that's like :-)
