Undrinkable, as with other bottles tasted over the last year or so. Heavy barrel toast, cigarette smell. Gross. Couldn't even finish a glass. Not sure what happened to this wine, as I know David would also have tossed this out of his glass and nothing else he made ever tasted this way.

Gave this a lot of air since the last few bottles have been quite weird - maybe 2 hours in the decanter? - then drank over the course of the evening. Very pleasant roast chicken wine with lively red fruit and some good earthy character. Not terribly complex or effusive, which is fine when it's not meant to be center stage. I might have let it go a little too long in the decanter, as it was a little sleepy by the end. At that point, though, I was having a f--k it moment with pretzels and port wine cheese, so not paying much attention.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs and day 2 -med dark red -some reduction funk, ripe plum, violets -med acidity, med conc/weight, shortish finish with slightly dried out tannins and discernible oak, dark red-black fruit profile -decent Bourgogne on the dark side

First taste of a David Clark wine... expensive for a Bourgogne at $39.99 - but it really is a lovely wine. Gorgeous silky texture is the most striking characteristic, with just a framing of oak, but then lovely ripe but fresh red fruit. Not massively long which you would expect (at this level if not price). A very impressive Bourgogne.

this bottle was not nearly as enjpyable as in the past. i fear it might be shutting down. the bouquet was as ever remarkable. but the palate a little disjointed, the acidity overpowering the fruits. it's still ok but i think i'm leaving my remaining bottles for a few years to see if they come around.

i've made short work of the first half of this case, a good indication of how good i think it is. this bottle felt like it needed a little more time. not much time needed, but after an hour in the glass it had opened up significantly, a telling sign. good meaty and cherry notes, nice balance. an excellent wine.

The wine has a medium ruby colour. On the nose the wine is medium in intensity with distinct toasty notes and strawberries. On the palate the wine is dry, medium to high in acidity, with light to medium levels of tannins and a light to medium body. There are flavours of strawberries and there is a noticeably buttery taste. The wine also has toasty flavour and something that could perhaps be described as savoury. Quite concentrated flavours for a wine of this type. The wine has a medium length.

Immediately some Brett. This will not resolve but is, for me tolerable, though it does obscure the nose.
Otherwise this is very serious for basic bourgogne and you can see the effort that Mr. Clark has put into his wine. There is a very good concentration here, in color and in flavor. But true to the best of the varietal the palate enters with concentration then glides into a weightless, refreshing middle and longish finish. The fruit is a gush of tart red berry with occasional hints of pleasing sweetness, never cloying in the least.
This would be quite excellent were it not for the brett because I get very nice aromatics of fruit and flower but it takes work to get past the barnyard. Even so, the texturing of this wine is really quite masterful, a great play between concentration, silky smoothness, and refreshing weightlessness. A great many higher echelon pinots never achieve this interplay. From an American in Burgundy who has begun by picking up plots where available, this effort shows the attention he was able to put into every level of his production at this early point in his career. I would be willing to try another bottle to see if the brett is absent, and if so should be very good indeed. If not it is a nice experience but would keep me from repeat purchase.

Very well put together BGO. Good balance, fruit, decent finish. If I compare this to the same producers Passetoutgrains, I'd have to say the Passet beats it, for my taste. Much better balance than average BGO.
