Fairly muted bouquet and bit closed at opening; slowoxed for 1 hour (in fridge to cool bottle down a bit) and then decanted 2 hours before drinking. Slightly translucent crimson with very slight bricking. Bouquet fully opened up with very pleasant graphite and dark berries (no cigarbox). Midweight + mouthfeel. Some tannins, low acidity--blind I would have mistaken it for a top Bordeaux. Graphite and dark berries slightly reminiscent of Chateau Palmer. Still some power, but a lot of finesse and layers. Wine is at an ideal place. Delicious and reasonable value at current price point (if you can find wine!). Paired well with lamb stew.

WARNING . I had 12 bottles of this good wine in my cellar kept in optimum conditions . It s claimed to be best for drinking at 8 years. Over the 11 years it slightly improved during the first 3 years and slowly deteriorated since. At 9 years its bouquet had lessened and softened and lost depth of taste, clear signs of aging. At 10 it yellowed proving decline and now at 11 its absolutely undrinkable. Overall this follows its big sister Pingus that Peter Sissek openly admits his incapacity to maintain the quality of 1995 when the world raved about it. Subsequent vintages vary wildly and should be carefully considered when buying any, because yhou cannot be assured it will be excellent , good ius not sufficient for such a high priced wine.
Flor de Pingus the wine under review here, also varies wildly, and will not age well after 6 years. Complaints to the Domnio for replacement are met with an unhelpful instruction to return them to the retailer distributor fopr consideration. Its easier to throw them away. BUT teaches us that Pingus dont care about quality, instead they must think the doubtful value of Parker points will last forever . Theyre about to have a rude awakening .

2 very solid and consistent bottle, decanted for a good 45 minutes or so. 10yrs in bottle and this is now at peak and in full stride. Very pretty wine, still on the fruit but the fruit has relaxed, softer, darker fruit, round and silky tannin. Elegant wine and was just excellent at this juncture. The only thing we regret is not having another 1-2 bottles to try in 3-5 yrs. Solid 93 from us.

This is a really excellent example of Tempranillo. Nose is classic with red berry fruits, tobacco, worn leather, dusty earth, and just a hint of vanilla. The palate is fabulous with a lovely texture, great depth, and a great vein of acidity that keeps it fresh and lively. Very well done wine.

Obviously a bit of a contrarian here, but a nice deep crimson. Barnyard nose, with plum, cherry and smoke. Little tannin and a bit soft. Hoped the barnyard would blow off, but after two hours it is still noticeable. Medium finish again on the soft side.

At home with Wendy and Joe, finishing the holidays with Paella from Despana. Lined up some great Spanish wines for the evening. Decanted this along with an 05 Prado Enea and 01 Muga Aro. Decanted for 2+ hours. Air time seemed to benefit this wine (and the others) given the concentration they need time to unwind.
Color is a brooding purple, no signs of aging. Nose is a gorgeous bouquet of dark fruits, faint cedar, and spice, big but elegant. Palate was dark fruits, plums, , licorice, mushrooms, smoke, cocoa. Mild acidity and mellowed tannins, its a pure and balanced wine that, surprisingly, is ready to drink now. Finish is focused on mid palate, medium to long.
Really well made stuff, exotic and balanced. WOTN against some great competition. Should continue to age nicely.

Decanted for two hours. Violet and black to the core, with a ruby/violet rim - I just love the colour. Sliced plum, Jamacain jerk spice, rose petals, mineral, licorice, mushroom and Turkish coffee. The palate is even more complex with acidity that makes you crave the next sip. Tannins that are polished, velvety and well-strewn; the finish echoes plum and is long - with an ending that focuses on the plush mid-palate. I am evidently enjoying this Ribera del Duero and find it excitingly better than most first-wines, much less a second. The ability to age is all there, and elegance with exotic tendencies are bringing back sexy on Christmas. Drink 2013 - 2028.

Pre- Xmas lunch (El Recó restaurant (Sant Climent, Barcelona)): Decanted for about 2 hours. A total infanticide. Dark color, young. Smoky nose, ripe black fruit, plum, milky aromas. On palate it's medium to full bodied, dry, some astringency, present tannins, layers of mature fruit, long finish. At this stage it's still too monolithic to enjoy, way too young. (90-91)

Poised aristocratic wine 100% Tempranillo from 40+ year vines. Peter Sisseck starts with 100% new barrels then transfers to older barrels for 22 months! Earthy nose with savoury palate reminds me of tapenade, liquorice and fine dusty tannins. needs loads of time?

Dark red; pronounced vanilla, soft, mellow, gentle fruit nose; blackcurrant, mulberry, deep but not overwhelming, too tannic at the moment, may become better once some of the tannin has been shed, currently overshadowing the berries; nose is good though; wait

Lovely oak and fruit driven nose. Sweet entry, very rich mouth but silky smooth. Great weight but somehow the nicely done oak keeps it from being overdone. This is a modern croed pleaser.

This was so svelte......none of the overt oak that I find in many RDD and Toros.....really well integrated with great length and complexity.....drinking surprisingly well

ProActive Project Management Team Dinner (Karlebo Kro): Dark, warm and smooth fruit. A crowd pleaser, but a step down from the previous Chateauneuf-du-Papes.

Dark red; pronounced vanilla, soft, mellow, gentle fruit nose; blackcurrant, mulberry, deep but not overwhelming, too tannic at the moment, may become better once some of the tannin has been shed, currently overshadowing the berries; nose is good though; wait

Still very young, nose mostly on wood and vanilla but some nice fruit seems to be emerging after 4-5 hours in the decanter. Mouthfeel is fresh and silky but lacking in depth and complexity. Overall a nice wine.

wow what a wine...Dark red in color..For such a young baby she was open for business..Nose: Some funk along with pine combs, earth, mushrooms galore and red berries..Palate: Smooth and sliky on the palate, fresh red berries, earthy, leather, spice and a hint of smoke...Extreamly well balanced and focused...Loved it....I got 5 left in the cellar and look foward to tasting this over the next decade..Cheers!!!

Needs at least an hour to decant.

The Ultimate Wine Experience (Binny's South Loop - Chicago, IL): Funky, pungent, rich and super earthy and shroomy.
Forest floor. Totally ridiculous bottling. Highly recommended.
