A bit tannic and acidic- possibly in need of more time but there is some funkiness and stewed fruit on the palate so this seems as if it is on the downslope. I prefer the rose.

Lungo

Dark red; nose of spices and caramel, lean; lean attack and body, some caramel, also in aftertaste, some sweetness, mouthplucking dry tannins; a bit awkward, some good fruit but not well balanced

very oaky upon opening but quickly settles into a more elegant nose, still quite tannic, this should evolve into a very fine wine in a few more years. very good acidity unlike other wines in provence, perhaps due to the northern exposure of the slope?

So good. Just as the previous bottle 2 years ago, this is about finesse than power wich is amazing for Provence. You can clearly see the influence of having limestone soils with a northern exposure. Old cedar wood, cassis and blackberry. Very structured with fine tannins. Definitely something rustic with nice earthy notes. Blind, this is a ringer for Bordeaux! 45% Grenache, 30% mourvedre, 5% cinsault and other varietals (20% syrah).

Granato cupo. Al naso mora, ribes, terriccio, pepe rosa, macchia mediterranea, note ematiche, leggero speziato. Bocca molto fresca e sapida, di gran carattere e buona persistenza. Imponente il tannino

OCT, 2011. 1/2 bottle. decanted for 1 hour +. purchased in provence last year. ** this bottle had some pretty serious leakage. but did not show indications of oxidation or spoilage.
color - dark solid core fading to a deep red rim. not purple and shows not to be " young" wine nose - right out of the bottle showed mature notes, almost bordeaux like. after some air, the nose became very shy providing notes of sour cherry, black cherry and raspberry palate - very very primary with elevated tannins and acidity with somewhat bright red fruit. the tannins have a pretty fine grain to them and cary well through the mid palate and finish along with the acidity. also this sports quite a long finish.
note, i have a hard time passing judgement on this bottle due to the cork. though, it did not show signs of oxidation. overall, this bottle was quite primary in it's evolution. i have one more bottle and open it around 2015. very curious about my 2001 and 2007 bottles.

Southern Rhone night: 3 hour decant. Dark. Bouquet lovely, full of fruit. Some complexity. Herbs. Palate smooth, well built. Not too tannic. The classic very dry Simone finish. Less exciting and deep than better vintages though. I'd recommend a more ripe vintage to any Ch Simone newcomers!

45% grenache, 30% mourvedre, 20% cinsault---the rest is a field blend of 15 varietals! sweet, dark berries, garrigue, hay, intense minerality and herbal qualities, but the fruit from this exceptional vintage is very forgiving. agree with the previous posts about searching out riper or older vintages for first-timers. a truly beautiful old-school wine that can age forever.

Beautiful nose, already complex and changing quite often in the glass. The palate is tighter and shows the youthness of the wine. Some garrigue, cherry. There is also something animal in this wine. Firm tannins and a very long finish. A touch of plum on the palate. A subtle note of anis also appears in the background. Despite its young age, the wine has a really good balance and has a long life ahead. This is a wine about finesse rather than power.
