Side by side Eche, GE and Tache 08 from the Domaine. Very strong showing for RSV (I would say just pipped by GE and possibly preferred RSV to Tache today), very pale in colour, a very delicate and soft scent of rose petals emmenating from the glass. Very serene, super interpretation of the vineyard and top pinot. Should be wonderous in time with a bit more sweetness to come on the mid-palate and warrant another point. As for GE I would think hold and drink 2035-2050.

Exquisite! The nose is to die for. Lots of DRC stems/whole cluster goodness and spice, fruit still in tact - lots of cool red fruit - I would say 08 is on the classic side. Powerful and sensual at the same time. Ethereal - glides on the palate and just lights up every square nanometer of your mouth with hits of flavor. The inner mouth aromatics are astonishing. The flavor persistence is most impressive - I had a few sips while cooking and the finish just kept going, like you can taste the wines after many minutes between sips, heady aromatics, just gorgeous. Perfect Christmas dinner wine.
It was given 5-6 hour of aeration before serving. It had a sexy and intoxicating nose with DRC stems, sweet red fruit, perfume, and flowers. On the palate, it was airy and expressive with lots of complexity. It kept getting better in the glass. Tonight, it was the consensus WOTN against 01,02 and 10 RSV. 96-97

Super expressive nose and palate with loads of spice and red fruit. Nice stem note. Like the LT, this is pale in color but full of flavor. Not sure how this will age.

Far better than the 2006, and in my opinion was the best bottle of the evening, beating the '04 AR Clos de Beze, '14 Leroy VR Genaivrieres and '16 Liger-Belair Echezeaux.

A classic DRC RSV in a really good spot already. Silky ripe red fruits with infused Asian spice. Long and dense yet maintains an elegant style. Just showing early signs of secondary characteristics adding intrigue and nuance.

Our date night wine at Canlis. Open and welcoming right from the first pour. Remarkably floral with roses, light cherry, raspberry, mace spice, and the faint scent of dust and tobacco. With time (1.5 hrs), the nose turns sweetly jammy, reflecting salted plum, ripe pomegranate, darker cherry, molasses and sweet tobacco. Though the wine has a light textural presence, the flavor profile is dense. A wine of exceptional equipoise, silky tannin, and drinking at a great spot in its life. A holiday treat that left my wife smiling and completely enchanted.

08 RSV/Richebourg/LT horizontal. This was the most medium bodied of the three. Plenty of intense spice, black tea and whole cluster throughout. Seamless and showing approachable now. Juicy but not sharp. Not quite up to the Richebourg or LT. More stuffing than an 07 RSV tasted earlier in the evening.

Early dinner gathering (Capital Grille, DC): Incredibly expressive exotic kinky and complex nose displaying rich unbelievably concentrated black and red fruit, black cherry, red cherry, cherry compote, strawberry candy, sesame, mocha, strong DRC stem, Chinese medicine, truffle, sap, rare steak and earth. There is strong sous bois which is really pleasing. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of opulent cherry fruit, dense, rich and oily yet also fluid, precise and beautifully detailed, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long unbelievably concentrated black cherry driven finish with sesame and Chinese medicine at the end. This has developed beautifully in the past three years gaining weight and sous bois. It perhaps lacks the additional complexity and precision of La Tache but boy this is impressive! There is a bit of cannabis like kinkiness.

This was deep dark concentrated and still a little unyielding despite double decanting. This will be a brooding giant when it gets into its stride. It has the structure and concentration to be a superb wine. Definitely stronger than the 2004 drank next to it. Cellar for at least 3-5 years more.

DRC stems, coffee beans, smoked red fruit, and spice. Regal palate with excellent transperency and balance. Even at its youth, the complexity surprises me. It is in the first inning of its drinking window with good upside. I like it a lot more than his 06 and 07 RSV.

2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Another gorgeous and exotic showing. Intoxicating nose displaying pure black fruit with a hint of red, blackberry, black cherry, strawberry candy, coffee, noticeable DRC stem, Chinese medicine, Vosne spice, black truffle, white pepper, a hint of sous bois and strong mineral. Perfectly integrated palate, beautifully layered pure black fruit, excellent energy and precision, bright acidity, strong stemmy mineral and a long pure black fruit and Vosne spice driven finish. This is a very exotic DRC that is drinking magnificently.

A lazy Sunday afternoon gathering - Champagne and DRC (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Exotic kinky nose displaying cannabis and exotic incense followed by subtle slightly dry red fruit, Vosne spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, Chinese herbal medicine, white pepper and limestone. Very refine palate, similar to the 96 La Tache, very finely layer subtle sweet red fruit, very detailed and polished, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, very fine tannins and the exotic herbal finish. The nose remains very complex and intense throughout the evening. The 08 DRC line up have deceptively light color and slightly lean palate yet both the nose and the palate are very intense and exotic. The 08 DRCs have remained incredibly expressive and exotic since release. IMO, the most exotic DRC vintage.

So elegant. Rich concentration of red fruit and plenty of acidity make this very nice drinking right now, with DRC's stemmy note providing body and complexity. That said, the Vosne spice is only starting to show and there is plenty of room for development, so unless you own several bottles, I would recommend waiting a few years more.

Pure sensuality! A scratchy wine, elegant, but generous at the same time. Perfect vintage to drink now and maybe still in the top for another 10 years. Light red in the glass, beautiful. Oriental spices and small fruits with an unprecedented olfactory intensity. In the mouth is a crisp, energetic wine, perfectly balanced in wood. What is surprising is that the wine is complex and immediate at the same time, with a minerality that makes it salivate and constantly invokes the drink. Deep, vertical, but then stomping in a mouth full, round and voluptuous. We are at the top of the climat.

A bit of fizzy effervescence at first, from both a magnum and a bottle. This disappeared after 20 minutes so I recommend decanting. It gained elegance and a velvet like texture with air as well.
The color shows a highly extracted wine with a bouquet of black cherries that comes through on the palate along with plums. The flavors are saturated and balanced but buoyed by clean acidity. Showing great length and poise. I give it 95 points for the amazing elegance and clarity of flavors; complexity will come later. Drink now or wait 5+ years for more complexity to develop.

Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago - Burgs, SQNs and Cult cabs (David Burke's Primehouse): You outta love the 08 DRCs as they are already showing so much complexity. I MO, the exotic/cannabis note is due to the stem inclusion. Expressive hedonistic nose displaying sweet succulent red fruits, red cherry, raspberry, stem, cannabis, mushroom, white pepper and mineral. Excellent concentration, very energetic and precise palate, bright sweet red fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity and lovely long pure red fruit driven finish. This is so incredibly hedonistic but will improve further. Very pure yet very kinky and exotic wine.

Impromtu Dinner with Michael Jessen - 96 Champanges and Red Burgundy Dinner (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): I have had a number of the 08 DRCs, no RC of course, and they seem to be quite open and ready. For me, they seem to show almost tertiary like flavor profile. Perhaps it can be attributed to noticeable stem note which, combined with the typical 08 vintage fruit expression, gives very exotic notes a la cannabis. Exotic nose displaying ripe a bit dry red and black fruits, stems/green that adds complexity , cannabis, Vosne spices, mushroom, white pepper and milk chocolate. Good concentration, silky palate, ripe fruit palate expression and nicely integrated tannins. Very enjoyable already but it will be interesting to observe in ten years when the stem quality gets integrated.
