Fine NSG evolving wine. Improved since last tasting. Double-decanted. Mid-dark ruby, amber-brick edges; earthy, animal, musk, black cherry and leather nose; balanced tannins/acids; good fruit; Pinot character; long smooth rich finish. w/lamb

Garnet core with orange rim Light minty thyme aromas with some tea and mushroom Drying out a bit on the palate, With an hour of air, this still has some life, but fading

Medium garnet colored with a dense crust on the bottle. A fair amount of sour cabbage aromas on first whiff which blew off rather quickly. Rather savory sour cherry flavors in a definitively rustic package. I like it, but would be a bit hesitant to serve it at a dinner party for the rusticity

Light-mid brick, amber edges; earthy, wood, black cherry, light flowery nose; mid-body, balanced, decent tannins, a little rough and one-dimensional on the finish.

medium rusty garnet colored. Almost completely impenetrable earthy rustic tannins. With a few hours (and even more on Day 2) this opened up to a rather classy, if still rather rustic Nuits. I'd give it a lot more time.

Hairy Crab Night 2014 (Capital Restaurant, New Bridge Road, Singapore): I did not quite know what to make out of this wine. If I could put it this way, it was very “Potel” – well-made enough, drinkable enough, clearly showing 1er Cru quality, but somehow a bit pedestrian, as if the wine was somewhat less than the sum of its parts. The nose had a lot of earthy, savoury aromas of sous bois and umami chicken stock playing against a dark fruited background, with a little drift of dark flowers floating alongside. The mid-weight palate had a decent depth of black-fruit flavours held in slightly powdery tannins and good enough balance, with earthier, spicier notes then coming in at the finish. This had the sinewy, muscular feel that one would expect on an NSG, but I also thought it seemed to be rather on the rustic side. It lacked a bit of clarity, missing the transparency of flavours that I look for in great Burgundy and actually coming across a bit murky. Overall, decently good, but uninspiring. About time to start drinking as well.

As with previous bottle, a prety off-putting rotting, vegetal nose, cabbage possibly, that blows off after 30 mins or so. Underneath this, it's got good, grippy dark red fruit and good minerqlity with its structure. Plenty of life left in this. Good. ***1/2

Really quite a full dark red still, deep cherry. Initially a little gamey/barnyardy but this seemed to blow off after 20 minutes to reveal a dark-fruited slightly spicy nose. Quite tight on entry, some earthiness but good dense fruit and a grippy still slightly tannic backbone that was fairly unyielding for an hour or two. Opened up a bit but this really needs two or three more years. Good. ***1/2

Pale brick, amber edges; mineral nose; earthy, smokey, gamey, opens with air; mid-body, good tannins, long semi-chewy finish.
