Wow - the nose alone is to die for but the palate is equally impressive. Layers of sweet red fruit but also dried flowers, licorice, and a bit of game. Still plenty of structure and a long future ahead. Just as good on day 2, if not better. I agree with others here that this was hedonistic in character, which suits my taste very well. Beautiful stuff.

Nose: raspberry, spices, red fruits, cola Notes: Quite a chewy texture. The Griotte is big and well structured with plenty of complexity. I would argue and think that it is still very lively and young and that it is just beginning to step into its drinking window. Despite plenty of potential to this wine I really feel that a lot the nose hasn't integrated well enough and that the overall profile still requires a little more time to get to its perfect drinking window. I think another 5 years will be even better. Definitely worth revisiting in a couple of years. Drink: 2028+ Rating: 92

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Champagne and Burgundy (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Hedonistic nose displaying ample delicious red and black fruit, blackberry, raspberry jam, cherry, a hint of licorice, rose, grilled cep, baking spices and earth. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of delicious red and black fruit, rich and opulent yet fluid and beautifully balanced, perfect amount of acidity and earthy mineral, and a seamless long concentrated red and black fruit driven finish. Although youthful, this is so darn expressive, drinking beautifully.

1/6, vg cork. Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows pure red fruit, aromatic if quite advanced and gamey, spice. Medium bodied on the palate, spicy, savoury, gamey, underlying pure strawberry fruit, has good length but there is a touch of attenuation/firmness. Excellent if not quite as harmonious as I'd hoped, on this showing at least.

Fourrier really nailed this vintage, these wines are so full and fresh, with tremendous depth and spice. Great gevrey character, this may be the best of the bunch

Pre La Paulée Zachy's BYO Dinner (Lafayette NYC): Crazy good and layered nose with dizzying levels of spice. Palate has great concentration of black cherry with meat and spice layered throughout. Long, delicious, bright finish.

Zachys La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): In 03/06/07/08/09/10 vertical. Black and red cherry with spice just behind the fruit, then structure just behind that. Glorious balance with good+ weight. Best ever for this wine. At its peak.

Chefs Table @ Restaurant Callas (The Hague): Exquisite elegance. Delicate sweet red cherry and sapid earth, followed by velvety tannins and a long, intense and mineral finish.

Leiden revisiting Calla’s: Although this is 2007 Burgundy, I was afraid that it might still be too young. It was however excellent, very elegant and perfumed expressive nose, lots of concentration, sweet red fruit, lovely acidity, complex Gevrey tones, minerals, long finish. It was interesting to notice the similarities between this wine and the 2014 Duroche Griotte served next to it.

Kelly, Kevin, RJ and Tom's excellent NYC adventure; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (New York City): Expressive nose displaying decadent ripe red fruit, strawberry jam, raspberry jelly, mocha, floral perfume, sautéed mushroom and earthy mineral. Excellent concentration, nicely layered sweet red fruit, silky and polished, bright acidity, excellent earthy mineral and a long sweet red fruit driven finish with earthy mineral and mocha at the end. This is a nicely concentrated 07 GC Burgundy with decadent red fruit. Drinking deliciously in a very youthful way. It will reach the pick in another decade, gaining complexity through sous bois and other tertiary notes.

What can I say, I like the 07s. It's nice to have a vintage like this sandwiched between 06 and 08. Lots of layers on the filigree nose, full of red fruit, just a touch of game, mineral, and spice. Quite beguiling, actually. Though this is attractive now, I think it will really blossom in a couple of years.

Dinner with JM Fourrier. Much more savory than other 5 vintages tasted, which didn't suit me. Also coffee bean aroma that developed in glass, hard to place.

2007 Gevrey Chambertin tasting: Description: About 20% new oak. Bright, vibrant colour. Perfumed, not primary Gevrey, notes. An expressive nose of roses and violets with red berries, flint and chalk. Autumnal and forest floor nuances were also noted by tasters. On palate, very pure and focused, but quite rich. Displaying fruit sweetness across the palate, and red cherry and raspberry flavours, it also had a core of tight iron. Gorgeous acidity. Serious structure and power. Lovely mouthfeel with ultra-fine grained tannins. It was described as having an “endless after-taste” finishing on crushed rocks, minerals and chalk. Outstanding! My WOTN, although, with more time, the Clos de Bèze may ultimately prove the better wine. Quote: "What Burgundy is all about - power integrated with elegance" EL.
2007 Burgundies for Brodie and Raz (Wellington, New Zealand): A very light cherry colour. And what a nose! All chalk, flint and minerals, with notes of cranberry, raspberries and red currants. Very pure. In the mouth, for me, this was an epiphany wine. The flavours were a mixture of delicate red berries and piercing chalk, limestone, granite and other crushed rocks and minerals. Perfectly ripe with Grand Cru structure and power, but very light on its feet. Beautifully balanced and focused. Approachable now but there is no hurry to drink this. Mike said this was the best Fourrier Griotte he had ever had. WoTN (in tough competition) and one of my WoTYs (thanks Nick).

La Paulee Gala (San Francisco CA): I've tasted many of the Fourrier wines from 2007 over the past few years, and this is the first I can recall as outstanding, with most of them reflecting the vintage's challenges. Great red and black cherry aromas that follow through perfectly on the palate, even if slightly tart. Wonderful spice emerges from middle to finish.

Drinking beautifully now but no doubt the Griotte would benefit from 3-5 more years.
