There is a lot to like here. Huge, in your face nose of raspberry, kirsch and smoke. Not a lot of fruit on the palate, but the wine is rich and big. The mouth coating alcohol gives this wine lots of life. It also has a long finish. This Zin is still drinking very well at 10 years old. Possible has 3-5 more years left.

Dark, ripe, concentrated, but balanced for as big as it is. This was very good with a rich meal, and is as good a Zin as I have had in some time. Still shows a bit of heat on the finish, but that is expected and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a top notch Zin. In a great place righ now. A

Toned down Zinfandel. Not quite as full throttle as other Turleys, but I like this different bottling. More red fruit. Really rustic and earth driven for a Cali Zin. Lots of nice pomegranate fruit, sweet Asian spice, lighter gray and pink peppercorn. Nice balanced finish. Really enjoyed the styling but I still want a little more punch from a Turley.

With roasted pork. Drank very well, a bit underwhelming in the tannins and zin character. Quite strong in cherry and bright fruit. More brut force than a Pinot Noir but fruti forward inthat vain. Way more integrated than the 07 right now.

Big concentrated wine with intense nose of dark fruit and some smoke, of particular interest was the sarsaparilla note that carried on throughout the night, a somewhat vegetal root beer thing. The wine felt heavy and the fruit is still prominently displayed. The alcohol balance for me was off, and this did take away from the overall enjoyment. Tried this around 2 years ago, and not much has changed. 50+5+14+14+5

My first Ueberroth AFAIK. Popped and poured, consumed over 3 hours. Nose shows dark stewed fruit, pepper, black olives and maybe a bit of alcohol. Taste is raisiny cherry, blackberry, cooking spices, olive tapenade and other things I'm failing to put to words. Transition from mid to finish shows quite a bit of alcohol which detracts from the nice acid punch up front and silky smooth tannins that envelope your mouth. Darn fine but the heat is just too much for me.

Consumed over two nights, pouring 1/2 into a 375 immediately upon opening. A well composed wine, the flavor complexity and acidity balancing the high alcohol content. Less raisiny than my first bottle, core black fruits and almost an anise, five spice undertone. Acidity there to provide support. I think the Ueberroth is a very interesting wine, and a great look at old vine potential in the Paso region. The '02 was a revelation, this '04 is good and we'll see how the younger vintages perform, haven't touched those yet.

Went great with Bar b q pork. The pork had heavy dry rub and slightly spicy more sweet sauce. Now is the time to drink this for It is going to get no better. The tannins are slight and the integration is virtually done. The front mouth feel has a bit of Kirsch, but the rest of the drink is rich and full fruit, the balnce being the slight tannin. The best part of the wine to wifey and I was the easy drinkabililty. It is in that place now, where if you drink it you say,"oh; this is what they were looking for when they made it". Looking at Ct, I see this is very consiisitent with notes I made on this wine 18 months ago. The difference is I popped and poured now and I decanted 2 hours last itme, so it is in its wheelhouse now, I think

16.3% alcohol. Dark ruby red. From one of California's most precious vineyards, planted in 1885. Exuberant aromas and explosive flavors of rasberries, black cherry and spice. A beautiful, powerful, passionate expression of Zinfandel. In this style, it simply does not get any better. Bravo! Years of life ahead.

I drank a bottle at release and thought this would be the rare Turley that would hold, if not improve past 5 years. Wrong. Already over the hill and even showing some bricking. Fruit has faded but alcohol remains high. Stuill has some punch and a spicy finish but past prime.

A little pruny, still not bad, with nice chocolate and raspberry flavors. Lacking a bit of depth, and perhaps this indicates a downward slide. Still yet, I cannot see it improving. Drink now.

Ready to drink now - rounded mouthfeel - on the sweeter side of the zinfandel spectrum, but not in a problematic way. Great balance and bursting with fruit, with red fruits dominating on the finish.

Knew this was going to be special as i was pouring it into the decanter. Delicious aromas of rich fruit and spices. After 1.5 hour decant it was delicious. The best zin i've had to date. Absolutely pure and at it's peak. Glad to still have 2 more bottles tucked away.

Opened this one in prep for a tasting tomorrow. Best I can tell, it's going to need some air. Relatively subdued nose. On the palate, not a "crusher" by any means. In fact, a good deal of acidity balancing out the fruit. About the fruit, I wouldn't say it's hiding, but it's definitely not presenting as a fruit bomb. I have to say, opening this for a "Big Red" event, I'm concerned as to how this will show.

No official notes. Not decanted. Big, briary and jammy fruits. Showed some spice. Fresh. Lacked the vegetal funk found on a lot of the 2004s that really turned me off. This is what I expect from a Turley Zin.

Smooth, lipsmacking red fruits and tobacco. Definitely has the raisiny edge noted by others. Round and enjoyable. Agree that it's in the window. Nose is distinct, this is definitely not a sonoma co. zin. The spice and black earth notes are very nice.

Oh my. Medium, dark, pure red. Aromas of cherries and rasberries. One of those rare wines that simply explodes on the palate - with sweet red fruit, spice and everything nice. Wonderful balance, exceptional fruit intensity, amazing purity. An absolutely stunning wine. One of my all time favorite zins (and I've had a bunch). Really at a wonderful peak, but showing no age. I have only one left, which I'll probably drink over the next year or so.

This is good. Solid fruit core, good complexity. Good enough finish. But there is something missing. This is our 2nd and last 04. We have the 07 so that will be an interesting comparison. Nose of rich red fruit, spice but surprisingly, some stewed fruit and salinity. Palate is high acidity with deep red fruit, darker fruit, spice, plum. Nice. A bit of heat, which seems to always be percolating under the surface pops up during the finish.

Welcoming Phil Franks to the OC (Phil Franks, Huntington Beach, CA): Nose is straight forward yet powerful zinberry without too much ripeness but pushing it. Palate is lively and strongly acidic powerful blackberries. A terrific purity of fruit with only a faint touch of heat and a cleansing grip. Drinks equally over two nights. A terrific wine and could go a long while.

This wine is very good, not overcooked, still ripe. Nose of dark purple berries, orange peel (VA?), molasses. Although ripe, the wine is a more moderate crimson, not the deep red we often see in zins from Turley. Flavors of chewy zinberry, brambles, hints of oak and molasses.

Nose: Bright red fruit aromas with wet stone, and a "cassis meets raisons" quality that seems unique to Turley (particularily in 2004 vintage). A very subtle pruny quality shows later (no doubt due to age). Palate: A panoply of fruits both red and black with raspberries more at the forefront after aeration. Still firm tannins and a lengthy finish. The alc level is an ass kicker, but is well masked by the fruit, tannin and acid. I would say drink this now. Not my favorite Turley (2004 Dragon Zin), but still well made and enjoyable.

Another excellent bottle. Amazingly layered and nuanced nose, with notes of raspberry, blackberry, bramble, sage, pepper, toast, and smoke. Palate is treat, with fruity blackberry jam leading (no raisin notes), followed by notes of white chocolate, minerals, and limestone. Good acidity adds some zing. Better cold -- became slightly flabby as it warmed.

More heat than I expected, from start to finish. I enjoyed this wine. Nice expression of the Zin. But it is important to note that this Zin is 2x the price of the Seghesio so it has to bring the goods, and I'm not sure it does. Big nose with blackberry, kirsh, some oak, blue fruit, spice but a good bit of heat. A little lacking on the palate -- not as lush and coating as I would have thought. Good fruit and spice. It progressively picks up some heat and tannin. The finish carries on for a long time. Good wine...very good in fact. But at this price point from this producer, I expected a little bit more.

Very consistent with the bottle I drank (and tasting note submitted) about a month ago. Very particular style (rhone'ish-zin), but an excellent expression of that style, for those who are fans. I'm a bit agnostic in that regard - I appreciate the unique attributes, but wouldn't want all my zins to taste this way.

2003 CdP tasting at Rothmann's Steakhouse, New York. Asher brought this wine in a Fleurie bottle. Utterly sucky wine. Sun tan lotion, chocholate pudding, vanilla. Volatile. I can say with enormous conviction that this wine will never enter the door to my cellar. Yuck.

intense mixed berry nose; deep red color; raisin, pepper, blackberry flavors, with a lot of alcohol; nothing light about this wine; decanted, but drank relatively quickly after decanting; needs to be opened several hours before serving, although I am not sure how much lighter it will get; tried Pesenti and Cedarman '04's a few weeks ago and they showed better than this wine; feel there is a bit of Turley inflation on this one based on previous rankings

Wanted sometihing with a little zin spice on it for the bbq pork shoulder we were having, I found some favorable reviews on this one, so back to the weekly hit on Turley. Opened and splashed, still tight, nice fruit but that Turley small was not present, suprisingly. Left open for 1.5-2 hrs without decant, and got right into it with the pork. This was a mighty tasty wine, the first glsass was rich in strawberries with a silky texture, as the bbq and the wine kept going the flavors integrated well and the wines finished mixed perfectly with the slight bbq sauce. We never got the full spice we were looking for, instead we wound up savoring an exquisite wine with wonderful integration. No tannins, deep red color and rich texture to the end, I wonder if the flavors will become more defined with cellaring. I am not ususally a Ueberroth fan but this one is singing now. Enjoy with a Grilled Steak, Bbq ribs or on a cold winter night where a hearty but smooth red wine is what you need.

Turley by far has one of the best Zinfandels ever tasted. I purchased this at the winery and consuming it was every bit as great as I remembered it on my trip. Smooth and velvety on the palate with aromas and strawberries and raspberries, finishes with just a hint of spice and pepper. Excellent!!! I wish I had more!!

The wine was served without decanting slightly higher than cellar temperature, probably 62F. Nice fruit, dark red with a blue leaning. Very clean and balanced. This bottling is the more elegant side of Turley, but built on a solid foundation. The wine had a texture of satin, again, surprising for a zinfandel with an ABV of 16.3%. Finishes with a little spice and no rough edges. One of the better Turley Zin's I have tried. Drink now or anytime in the next few years. no sign of fading at this point, and drinking well today.

Opened but not decanted, enjoyed over a six hour period. Nothing really subtle about this full bodied wine, just tons of raspberry, Jolly Rancher watermelon candy, minerals and just a bit of spice on a lengthy finish. Very well balanced, only rarely did any heat peak out on the palate. This drank best over the first few hours, it seemed to be oxidizing too much towards the end.

Had with the Dusi 05 and the Rattlesnake Ridge 05. Favorites were mixed. This wine had great color and an outstanding Turley nose or brambly fruits with spice. Cedar aromas were very inviting as well. Flavors were much the same, but with some maple beef jerky tastes in there just to keep everyone on their toes. Enjoyed very much, as I usually do most Turleys.

Nice aromas of boysenberry jam, but on the palate this is a high acid wine that is perhaps a bit austere for my tastes. Bright fruit flavors save this from being a bit too astringent; all in all a bit disappointing. I have run hot and cold on this vineyard bottling...to me the '04 is cold.

Not decanted - tasted over the course of several hours. Very dark purple in color. Lively nose of dark berry fruit, pepper and spice. On the palate, extremely ripe fruit - bordering on over-the-top, but never quite gets there. Big mouthful of dark and red berry fruit, with the pepper still prominent, notes of chocolate and plums, and a very clear mineral streak running through the middle. Definitely not an elegant wine, but the mineral streak and the acidity keeps the exuberant fruit in check - just barely. If a zinfandel to sip on after dinner (or before a meal for that matter) is the goal, this zinfandel is a huge success, as it seems to be lively, fruity zinfandel at its best. Although it's in a slightly heavy stage, after consuming several older Turleys lately, I think I prefer the wines in their youth.

A bit big on its own... but great with a big, saucy, spicy pepperoni pizza. Loads of freshly mashed raspberries and freshly cracked black pepper. The 16% alc is surprisingly well hidden by the masses of ripe fruit. I think these wines sometimes get overly-maligned... they just need the right food.

Had this at a restaurant, so notes are a little sketchy. This is something special. The 16% alcohol is competly hidden by lots of seamless red fruit. Typical peppery zin mid palat, and nice smokey finish. My 1st Turley! I'm glad I have more.

Nothing really subtle about this full bodied wine, just tons of raspberry, Jolly Rancher watermelon candy, minerals and just a bit of spice on a lengthy finish.
