More garnet than ruby now from age. Forest floor and a touch of strawberry on the nose, which was somewhat muted. Tastes of cola, black cherry and red meat. Tannins are soft, but maybe too much so. Near the end -- better drink up my remaining bottle.

Burg/Bordeaux Dinner with BYO Gang (The Kongsee): Pale garnet, and visible browning and fading edges. Aromas mainly of dried cherry and tomato, then hint of dried florals and hay. Tannins nearly completely resolved, while flavours mostly of forest floor, slight fungals, nutmeg, five spices, and meat roast, while the cherry fruits felt rather receded. It's one that had seen better days years ago, but I think is past its best now. Quite a pity

Opened 3hrs prior to dinner & finding this very stern I decanted immediately. Served in Riedel Burgs. The decant helped but this still felt reticent and standoffish after 3hrs plus in the decanter. Looking back after the fact, I noticed a couple critics started their drinking window at ... 2028+. In hindsight that seems like pretty good advice. Not a total loss as this did show some of its potential and was fairly enjoyable with steak kebobs. Right now ...89-90pts. I only bought 2 and guessed wrong that 14yrs out made sense for btl 1 :). I'll likely be 75 when I open btl 2.

Nose of red cherry, candied cherry, and pomegranate. Palate shows firm layers of earth, fat tannins, dry red fruits, and a light oak note. Long caressing tannins on the finish with cherry put, white pepper, wet soil, and bark. This win is hard to break down into component notes, it comes across as a complete package.

Decanted and drank over 2 hours. Ripe cherry, plums, hints of brown sugar, a touch sweet, good concentration, low acid, some earth at the end. Nicely done.

I'm relatively inexperienced with Burgundy...the misses tend to be too expensive given the great CA and OR wines you can find. This Corton is a winner in my book. Needs 30 mins of air to start to integrate and open...starts off with too much tart crabapple essence...it blows off and this is really interesting pinot that shows the range of the grape to me. subtle cranberries, boysenberries, and meat juice...perfectly integrated...sea water, spice....interesting integrated flavors that really pair well with any food. still seems young but in the beginning of a drinking window.

In a somewhat awkward phase. No one guessed Burgundy at first. Côte Rôtie was mentioned... I think it needs a couple of years to come around. Still pleasant to drink.

A complex nose that has spice and earth, is markedly floral, with oak and some stem character. There is ripe fruit, medium depth, and good acidity. This is enjoyable now but the tannins are still fairly structured.

Pale crimson color, starting to show signs of maturity. Nose of baking spice and herbs. Palate has some red fruit and drying acidity. Finishes long, with persistent black fruit skins. Somewhat simple, without a great deal of depth. This is decent Corton, which means it's below-average Grand Cru Burgundy. Not loving the value at $80/bottle.

this is a 91-92. its very very lithe and almost lacking a bit more intensity to push it higher. very feminine and elegant. hay strawberry funk. finish is decent but could be longer. not something to have with an overpowering dish.
A stunner. Very pretty for a corton and surprisingly open. Red fruit, red roses, a little burg hay and funk. Just an obvious high quality red burg. These 2008s perhaps are a bit lighter and toned down compared to 2009 or 2010, but they can charm in a softer way.

Although this is a wine of lite color it has plenty of bright fruit flavors, red raspberry and sweet cherries stand out. It improved thru dinner so I see a long future for this wine. Probably shoup wait til 2020 or after.

Translucent cranberry red color. Quite ripe and expressive nose full of classic, Burgundian Pinosity, some toasty oak spice, floral violet tones, tart cranberries, a little bit sweet red cherries and raspberries and hints of sweeter mocha oak. The wine is moderately full-bodied, quite ripe and pretty concentrated on the palate, yet coming still across as delicate, not particularly heavy. There are flavors of ripe cherries, peppery Pinosity, stony minerality, some brooding oak character, a little bit of fresh raspberries and a hint of chocolatey oak. The wine is high in acidity, further emphasizing the crunchy qualities of the fruit, whereas the tannins are quite light and gentle. The finish is long, elegant and somewhat oaky with intense flavors of cocoa, earthy Pinosity spice, tart cranberries, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of juicy ripe raspberries and a touch of brooding, savory oak spice.
A nice, serious and quite brooding Grand Cru Burgundy that is starting to drink quite well, were it not for the rather pronounced oak character that still seems to dominate much. Overall this wine feels quite delicate and elegant, it shows quite a bit of Grand Cru power as well. Requires still some bottle age before the oaky qualities get better integrated with the fruit - I'd wager the wine will need some 5-8 years more, perhaps even longer.

Frankly, thoroughly impressive (and drunk along side the equally impressive 1999) -- and I was prepared to be unimpressed. Very high toned, floral, violet for a Corton, but I assume that is the height of the vineyard and the change in soil type. Approachable now, but the 1999 still had a long life ahead.

Wine Spectator Grand Tasting- SF April 24; 4/29/2013-5/1/2013: Red floral, forest-floor and cherry fruit aromas. Tangy mineral and earth palate overlying much of the fruit. Showed nice elegance. Fine silky tannins. Needs time, or more attention- tough in a mass tasting setting to fully appreciate.

Mid-deep red color with thinning color near the rim. Dry, cool nose of crushed lingonberries, raspberries and minerals with nice rustic overtones. Initially soft with red forest fruits, but gains more weight and power in the mouth, bringing in grippy spiciness, crunchy acidity, slightly coffee-ish oak and general oomph. Nice, refined structure, yet no discernible tannins. Mid-length finish with some minerals and brief oak aromatics.
Very balanced and nicely structured; despite its rather light and nuanced overall appearance, the wine turned out to be surprisingly generous and powerful. Way too young now - although approachable, shows only potential and unsurprising primary flavors. Demands long bottle age to even out those highs and lows and bring out some tertiary aromatics. Score will go up with bottle age.

Wow! I opened this because I was in the mood for something weighty, as Corton often tends to be, but this is actually totally the opposite personality--refined, feminine, and full of grace. I've also criticized Bouchard's wines of late for sloppy oak treatment, but that's far from the case here. There are some cedar notes on top of the fruit, but they're subtle. The thing that struck me about this is how similar the overall profile is to the Rouget Echezeaux I had last week, at a third to a quarter of the price. It's just beautifully refined, with the figure of a supermodel.

Bouchard Pere et Fils Cellar Visit and Tasting (Beaune Burgundy): Black cherry aromas with a dense, brooding character. Meaty, dense black fruit flavors. Compact through middle, lots of power on finish with very assertive tannins. Lots of potential but this will most likely benefit from 20 years in the cellar.

Bouchard / Fèvre / Henriot Tasting (The Wine Cellar Club - Irvine, CA): This is somewhat closed on the nose with typical dark burly aromas of black cherry, minerals, and earth. The palate on the other hand offers fresh heady fruit in a peppery style. Quite frankly there is loads of everything: great acidity, tannin, persistence, and overall density. There is a long life ahead for this wine.
