  • 5 years later.
A really interesting and nuanced wine. Drank over two days. Day one, the flavors and nose were soft and muted initially but opened in the glass. Earlier TNs noting the similarities to Pinots & Barolos are very accurate. This wine just feels well crafted, particularly suited to age. Day two the flavors really showed up. Bright fruit, floral, some earth if you look hard.

  • Continues to improve with bottle age. Wonderful blend of Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau, with fragrance over fruitiness, lift over weight, clean finish over heavy tongue scraper. Very nice. Roses, cherries, raspberries, wet earth.

  • Last tasted 5 years ago, this bottle was much as I remembered it from before. Light weight, high toned, etherial red fruit with a touch of savory and mushroom this time. Drinking very nicely no need to rush. This wine was built for the long term.

  • Bright cherry and wet stone scents, light bodied and dry, bright and lively, mineral, cranberry and cherry pit, uplifted and earthy, not overly complex, mouth watering

  • I cannot place a number rating on this wine right now as my palate just isn't feeling it. Maybe because it's the summer but this wine is interesting but not delicious.
On the nose barnyard, tomatoes, bell pepper, kale, and raw meat. The palate does show a hint of fruit but this wine is all about the veggies. In a blender, take a V8, throw in some fruit, a bit of soil, and a piece of meat....consume
It does improve with food but right now my palate wants to have more "fun".

  • Nice color, good aromas. Much improved from last year's bottle, so perhaps it's just now opening up?

  • shows amazing promise but it really needs another decade of bottle age at least. still a little tight.

  • Very consistent with the bottle opened last year. Very enjoyable.

  • I picked up on light red fruits, spices, dry earth, and a floral component but most of these are pretty muted and difficult to pick up. There is also serious acid in this wine. I wasn't convinced this was showing well so I recorked the remaining half and left it on my counter overnight.

On day two this wine has really come alive. The nose now gives off cloves, cinnamon, and spicebox along with strawberry and hints of dried flowers. The palate shows light red fruits including the strawberry and perhaps pomegranite. The acidity remains intense. With air, I really like this wine and would gladly buy more if I could find it. Supposedly these wines age for a very long time, but I don't detect the structure for that (just the acid). Anyway, I'll leave my other two in storage for the near term.

  • I concur with Brooklynwine's assessment of August 2013. If you're looking for something easy to drink, pop a bottle of Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells. If you're looking for something that will make you scratch your head and stretch your wine horizons, check this out.

  • Lovely nose of dark berry fruit and forrest floor. Very pretty in the mouth at first but quite tannic on the finish. Very nice effort.

  • Comments for this bottle only--tart and thin, no pleasure. Will update note if improved after a day opened. A disappointment so far.

  • Night 1 I won't even comment on because this was nothing but game, acid and tannin. Nights 2/3 this opened up more to show spice with a floral nose. Still with strong acidity. Hold for at least 5 yrs before my next

  • Had a bottle of this last night (yes I know I said it would be interesting to wait a couple of years). From memory: a lovely aromatic wine, with berry and spice on the nice, hints of mace and game, bracing acidity on the palate with good fruit. It keeps getting better.

  • Fragrant violets aromas, hint of cinnamon, raspberry aroma and flavor, lovely acid frame, still a good bit of tannin on the finish. Seems to have come a long way since I tasted it last. Would be interesting to wait for a couple of years before the next bottle.

  • Score: Mid to high 80's.
This wine is hard to score as it is more about the experience rather than the pleasure of drinking it. Opened and let it sit for several hours in glass while making dinner. Color: bright Ocean Spray cranberry juice color with a hint of rusting on the edges. Nose: Has a definite sherry mixed with flowers, and strawberry pixie stick candy. Also, a bit astringent on the nose. Palate: High acid, astringent, and rustic. Lighter in body but with strong tannins and maybe not fully together right now. Sour cherry, cranberry/ tart red fruit, earthiness, leather, and a bit of chemical minerality. This wine really makes you pucker then dries you out.
Obviously well made but not for everyone. If you just want something pleasurable and fun to drink do not buy this. However, if you want to geek out this is a nice find. I find myself thinking about it more than enjoying it, but I like it at the same time. Will see how my remaining bottles develop over the next decade or more.
Dinner: Drank with Korean bulgogi (marinated thin sliced meat)

I liked Elise's description of a cross between a Barolo and Burgundy. But it's more like they met then had a hippie son. If that makes any sense.

Day 3: Darker in color and fuller in body. While this wine is still quite tannic it has now smoothed out quite a bit. The fruit, now both black and red fruit, is starting to show. This wine is really good and will last for ages to come.

  • I like zippy wines as much as anyone, but this has more acid than 1 60's hippie convention. I am still searching for a dentist to replace the enamel on my teeth. Yes, this wine will outlast me, and probably my future grandchildren, but I wonder if it will ever tone down some to let the elegant light red fruit be enjoyed. I don't know how the hell to score this as future potential seemingly will get it up to the high 80's, but now....

  • This started out very light and "pretty" -- roses, strawberry, and citrus on the nose, with a smooth, simple palate of raspberry and strawberry supported by strong acidity that seemed lacking in tannins. Over about two hours, this opened up and became both rougher and more interesting; some tannic and citrus notes come through on the finish, and the rose/floral element on the nose comes out on the palate as well. This was my only bottle, but if I had another I would decant it, perhaps after holding it for a few more years.

  • Popped, decanted and poured. Plenty of robust black fruit with some brooding background spice. This is somewhat rugged and rustic, but with plenty of concentration. Lots of structure came into greater balance with some air from the decanter, especially towards the end of dinner.

  • Drank over two hours after pouring into a decanter. Very tight and thin (for lack of a better word) for first hour. Opened up considerably toward the end. Solid structure. Will try another bottle in no less than another year.

  • Clear ruby. Tart red fruits, cranberries, sour cherries, pomegranates. Nice acidity. Lovely...

  • Really high-toned, high-strung wine -- but totally captivating. Tart and sour cherry, acid, and minerality rule the day. The freshness -- on a 6 year old wine -- is incredible. Loved it.

  • Certainly a wonderful expression of red Jura-ness, this blend of Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau has a certain ethereal quality about it, which quite frankly, will not appeal to many accustomed to more substantial, "solid" wines. It is light, fleeting, racy, and high strung. If you don't understand what I am getting at, don't bother to even try this wine. If you like a big Aussie Shiraz, run, as fast as you can in the opposite direction. This wine will be a total waste (of it and for/of you).

For those of you who do delve into the esoteric worlds of Jura, Savoie, Valais and the Valle d'Aosta, this is a wine to seek out. Unfortunately it's not really available in the USA (and I promised not to tell where I got it from...) but if you can find it, buy a few bottles and put them away. This still has years ahead of it!!

The last two reviews more or less captured the technical essence of this wine. I have tried to provide a little insight into its soul.......

  • Reminded me of a cross between a lighter Barolo and a preier cru Burgundy - sour cherry, forrest floor, bright acidity, leather, beautiful garnet red color.

  • Very interesting. A thinking man's wine and not for the uninitiated. Typical light Kool-aid color. Bright cherries, minerals, steel, and stones. Excellent acid as expected. I bit broader shouldered than some Jura wines, this one has a tannic structure that is built to last. I will leave the only remaining bottle of this for another 5 years.

  • Light brick red color, nutty berry aromas with a touch of oxidation, some oak. Lean and acidic on the palate with a dry meaty flavor accompanied by hints of spice.

  • Opened one hour prior to drinking. Very light and transparent cranberry color. Dusty raspberry nose. Strawberry and raspberry, with very prominent and primary red fruit tastes. Sweetish. Good mouthfeel, moderate finish. Went well with a Gran Cocina Latina recipe for Salvadorian grilled steak. Simple, strait forward, but delicious! My first Cotes du Jura red. From the producer website (2006 vintage): Blended from the Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir varieties. I liked this wine a lot. Day 2 update; holding it's own, Ei liked. Definite repeat purchase.

  • This was excellent. Incredibly nimble and elegant. Showed more fruit and a little less secondary character than other bottles. This really benefits from opening the bottle a few hours ahead.

  • 100% BIO/organic Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau

Brilliant light brick red color, like a burgundy
Nose of pomegranate, tart red cherry, cranberry
Lean & bright in mouth, reminiscent of a young burgundy.
Tart red cherry, cranberry; dry mid palate & finish. Still almost puckering acidity.
Will cellar the other bottles for a few years.

  • Popped and poured, in glass 20 minutes. This offers powerful, thought provoking aromas. It does have the aromas of a sherry, but to me, this comes across as a sherried, fruity single malt scotch, without any whiffs of alcohol. Very pleasing grapey minerality, soil tones and funky briar. Smells smokey too. Reminds me of a Pignolo. Palate entry is soft and light bodied, and tannins begin rapidly taking over the palate. The flavors are of apricots, cherries, and dirt. Fairly minerally driven and acidic on the finish, with strong grape flavors, bitter dried cranberries, rocks, sulfur, and something slightly vegital. Very tightly wound at present, but also impeccably balanced for such a light wine; I can see why these age forever.

  • It shines like crystal. It is a beautiful pale garnet. It is slowly starting to get oxidized. The first nose is strong in cherry and strawberries. The second nose is more on the strawberries and the raspberries. It gets voluptuous and jammed. It is quite strong, quite tannic, quite astringent. Your mouth dries like herbs in the oven at 400. It is acidic as well, which beautifully balance the whole thing. Even if the tannins and the acid is quite strong, it is quite pleasant to drink, it is kind of soft in its strongness.

After 2 hours of carafe, the cherry smell and taste get lighter. A more dominant blackberry smell is present. The beast got tamed a bit, but it is still quite astringent and tannic. Still pretty well balanced.

It is not an usual wine. It is a wine from Jura: a unique climate and a unique geology that gives a unique wine.

The producer says that you can keep it up for 50 years, and that you should always drink it around 18 Celsius and to carafe it for 3 to 4 hours before drinking.

And the price... this wine is really cheap for the uniqueness it gives you; It costs 21$ here for something unique, good, well balanced, that can be in your cellar for 20 to 50 years. Why bothering spending 150$ a bottle on something else?

    Rating explained:
    -> 90 - 94 [ **** ] (Brilliant)
