Glass: No Name Burgundy Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, intense, youthful-developing nose with lots of warm fruit, orange peel, some nice smokiness, crushed stones. On the palate dry, medium+/high acidity. This Morstein is a wine with broad shoulders, very dense and concentrated with an oily texture. Lots of apricot, orange peel, very salty and a beautiful mineral core. Very good balance and a long fruity and salty finish. It was not yet at its full peak, so there is still room for improvement. It lacks a bit of tension and energy for me to be truly great, but this is a first world problem. 94

Complex aromas with a clear hint of wet wool, petroleum tones, white pepper and salt that lies above the delicious juicy grapefruit, golden yellow fruit, flower and hints of butter. Wonderfully full-bodied wine with this beautiful greasy mouthfeel that is nevertheless rich in energy and fresh with the vibrant acidity that gives the wine life. Juicy citrus peel, clearer grapefruit with juice overflowing, hints of butter, Petro and this wonderfully long, crispy finish with salt, salt and salt. Fabulous wine. 95 points.

The 2009 Keller Morstein is seriously intense, one of the most distinguished dry Rieslings in the world. Powerful bouquet of yellow fruits, ripe and glossy sweet slates. Seriously intense and focused with lavish fruits. A hint of sweetness on the finish (off-dry). Young and should be able to age for a few decades easily. (91-92/100)

A dense mineral wine with a nose of tropical fruits that only gets better with air. nice balance and the residual sugar does not over power. Was surprised to see what they go for now.

surprisingly a bit harsh, almost bitterness on the palate; tastes unbalanced with pronounced acidity. per mrbry83, did not yield much on the second day. not as enjoyable as the 08 tasted the same day, but perhaps an off bottle. 87 pts however for this showing.

“Ten Years After” 2009 Dry Riesling Tasting (Private Location): Interesting flight to start of the "ten years after" tasting. Typical "Rheinhessen" nose with a lot of yellow, ripe stone fruit but also some green reflexes like herbal notes. Quite balanced on the palate but also a touch too sweet imo. Gets better and better with air. A good Morstein but by far not on the very top.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2009 (@Private location, Esslingen): Glass: Zalto Universal *** just some brief notes, no full details, rating in context of the vertical tasting *** Opened about 10h before, not decanted. Youthful pale golden color. Classic Keller nose with some pineapple and mineral notes. Lots of extract and/or some residual sugar which makes it a bit sweeter. Great pressure on the palate, pineapple, herbs, wonderful mineral core. Very long, young. Potential for another decade. My favorite of the Morstein flight. 93+

A lot of yellow fruit upfront so we decant it for 2 hours. Then you get more & more spicy and tobacco notes. A massive, deep wine with a lot of punch but also always a certain elegance. Gets better in the glass and with some temperature. Lovely salty component on the long finish.

Passionfruit, mango, pineapple, yellow stone fruits as peaches, tropical fruits as rockmelone, great but not perfectly balanced as usual, the acidity is a little bit harsh, I think over the time it will be better integrated, the finish is broader than expected but the minerality gives a clean finish back, 94+

Beautiful nose with grapefruit, flowers galore and hints of petrol. Usual immense palate I always find in Kellers gg. Mellowed and more settled since I had last time two years ago with perfect balance between fruit, acid etc. It has a slightly hard or bitter issue on the very back, I don't hope this will get more pronounced. IMPORTANT: a 24 hour (or more) decant will get this wine to an even higher level!

one of the greatest dry rieslings ever made from a huge natural vintage this wine will cellar for another 40 years and is not ready to drink for another 5 -8 years if drinking now give a 24 hour decant , outstanding and multi layered i expect this and the schaefer frohlich felseneck grosses g dry cru 2009 to be 99-100 point wines in 5-10 years time these are grand cru wines from the grape that lives for ever if you own this rare wine you are very lucky-VERY GREAT !! will go to 2050 underground
last tasted 2 years ago it has mellowed somewhat with the fruit more evident. it does however still maintain a fantastic long long finish.even though i reckon it will last 5+years i will drink my remaining bottles over the next year or so to savour that long long finish i personally favour over the fruit. wonderful
Klar strågul. Mineralsk nese med flint, røyk, underliggende eple og aprikos. Intens, mineralsk og fokusert frukt. Tørr og stram. Frisk syre. Uttalt mineralitet i finish. Trenger mer tid.

Keller Rieslings + Chambolle-Musignys! (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant): The 2009 Weingut Keller Westhofener Morstein Riesling Großes Gewächs is bright gold in colour with an expressive notes of citrus, light woodiness (reductive?), fresh lemons and saline. The initial entry brings along its salinity accompanied with fresh intense citrus flavours of grapefruit, lime before progressing to a mid palate of salivating minerality. Laser-like focus along with a heavy weight on the palate. Power, structure and integration. A long intense finish that is most definitely impressive. A very serious riesling indeed.(opened 6 hours before pour)
The wine became slightly linear but much more focused in day 2 with lesser weight and more intense flavours in the mid palate. Fruit flavours begin to show better on the nose and particularly on the palate.

Stunning really! And I had a preconceived notion that this would be tough and unapproachable based on some earlier travel weary 2009 Keller wine early last year. There is nothing lethargic or sluggish about this GG. Instantly the wine wowed with aromas of citrus, citrus candy, dried blossoms, fruit perfume, earth minerals, silica perceptions, gunpowder residue, dried red fruit skin hints, spices; the list goes on and on. In the mouth the wine is also a show-stopper where all of the above wallow and linger in the mouth in a very high toned attack, utterly pleasing and delicious, and ends with airy, lovely, balanced finish that probably needs 50 superlatives to complete my note.

Drank over 10 days. Oh my, is this wine primary! Initially VERY tight with an impressive structure and lots of fruit hiding behind it. Very slowly the wine begins to soften and open up during several days. The last glass on day 10 has arrived to a point where the aromatics have opened and the structure smoothened. That last glass had wonderful, complex, very intensive fruit and the mouthfeel was very pure and smooth with wonderful tactile minerality. This is a great wine in the making, but it should see some serious time in the cellar or several days open to avoid disappointment.

I guessed Wittmann. Reluctant, juicy, salty. At the end exotic fruits. Pineapple, passionfruit. More elegant than Wittmann. It will be nie to compare them over the next 5-7 years. Today Wittmann ahead. 94+
