Vosne Romanee theme dinner, powerful nose, another excellent VR with substance, youth & exuberance, delicious now but personally prefer another 3-5 yrs for the secondary aromas 94+

Still needed a lot of time! Gained weight over time and this time the nose was more open after the decant. But certainly will need more time and get better.

Nose is mostly dark berry but has some Echezeaux character in terms of brighter red cherry and a certain integrated stalkiness. Hints of spice detail too. Palate is darker and sappier than the nose and is mostly straightforwardly primary blackberry and black cherry. Better the second day and generally a big step up from the Clos Vougeots recently.

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting, in 12/10/09 vertical. Very ripe black and red cherry with baking spice and very impressive density. Very fun right now, but this needs time to shed more baby fat. 92-93+ point potential.

A lovely drink. Muted nose but big on the palate. Took approximately 3 hours to open but then it drank very well with a long finish. Can drink for easily another 5-10 years!

A beautifully made wine, more terroir reflective than vintage. In the glass poura translucent ruby, raspberries, pomegranate, red currant, Burgundian earth, licorice, bay leaves, soy sauce, it’s a kaleidoscope of aromas. Medium plus acidity, light on its feet, silky tannins. goes on so long

Arrived late and had the last glass of the bottle so the wine must have had at least 1h of air. This was soft and fairly rich showing clearly the characteristics of 2009. Earthy with generous red and dark fruit. Nice and fun to drink but would like more delineation and elegance at this price point. Perhaps time will help. 93+

Dark ruby. Descrete nose of pine, black fruit, quite closed. Enters the palate still tight for an Echezeaux of this vintage, none of the lushness of the 2009 visible. Aromas and structure are promising though, good potential. We decanted it for 1h and it improved quite a bit. Today I like the Beaux Monts 2009 much better and it is about 100 USD cheaper. May be best to store this for a few more years and then see. 93-95. To be revisited.

Birthday Celebration (Custom House Tavern - Chicago IL): Lots of dense, fresh black fruit aromas accompanied by plenty of toasty wood spice. Massive and backward on palate. Open and decanted for perhaps and hour, this would have benefited from 6 hours...or ten more years in the cellar. Great raw material, fun to try, but impossible to fairly assess.

Paul's Bday at Custom House: Rich roasted extracted nose, sweet young, purple plum, lush dense ripe. Dense toasty spice, very young ripe with frear structure and flacors. Really nice upside, but a little young babe tonight. Wonderful s ice and bLance, this should turn into something special as tons of fruit, tannins, and acid. Yummy stuff with upside. Very primary today.

Great open nose with fresh red fruit - strawberry - and vanilla/oak. Taste was brilliant with lots of fruit, very wellintegrated oak and a nice fresh fruitacid. It almost felt like silk in the mouth with soft tannins. Harmonious and feminine. Long lasting aftertaste with lots of different nuances.

Score largely based on potential. This bottle was still tightly wound, but the material will be fantastic once it unfurls. Next bottle in 2024

Serious and deep PN nose, spice and dark fruit, complex nose; long and full bodied, wonderful and layered finish, youthful, a hint of tannin.

The Verticals Tasting at La Paulée 2015 (Colicchio & Sons, New York): Deep dark color. Slight funk and blackberry confiture. Lush, oaky, long, and liqueur-like. Very different from the older examples, in an unabashed modern style.
