Popped and poured. Light to medium garnet color with bricking around the edges. Nose of leather, dried cherry and sweet tobacco. Similar flavors on the palate with a bit of earthy undertones. Medium+ acid, fully resolved tannins. Started to fall apart after about 45 minutes or so but drank very well otherwise for an almost 20 year old chianti. Very enjoyable.

PnP, non-blind. This more than made up for my last (corked) bottle, and proved on of the best examples of aged (and traditional) Sangio I've had this year. Detailed earthen and fruit aromas, with a delicate ring of tertiary aromas and flavors that compounded the purity and overall experience alike. A textbook example of the grape and region. Just 12,5% abv, but full in the mouth, with a lovely stream of fresh acids balancing everything out. Another very solid 5 years yet ahead. Seems to be some bottle variation, as one a few months ago was just OK. recommended

PnP. Cork soaked 1/4 thru, in vg shape. Color fully transitioned and faded to the slightly amber rim. Earth, leather, cherry, violet, cedar and red apple skin. Medium-bodied, very lively acids. Slightly bitter, tannins still offering up nice grip. Med finish. Very correct, clean, and begs for food - if for no other reason than very little fruit remains. With air, it adds some complexity on the nose, less so on the palate. I have one more bottle left that I will consume over the following year. Acids will/have outlive(d) the fruit, so recommend drinking now. 12,5% abv

past its prime in my view. almost no fruit left, mostly herbal (thyme, bay leaf, cedar). Went well with steak, but could have given more pleasure when younger.

Decent enough sangio fruit flavors, but this has kind of an edge to it from what seems to be toasted oak. A little burnt, but no vanilla. The tannins are pretty firm on this too. I think this can age awhile longer.

Bricked edges. Sweet nose of earth, compost, tobacco, plum and black cherry. Palate is a bit thin and tart, finish drops very early. This bottle is well past it's prime.

This is a nice enough Chianti but seems a bit nondescript. Nice notes of sour cherry and balsa. A clean and simple wine but lacking some zip and intensity. Is this closed or just boring? I'm thinking the latter. I personally look for more leather and brett than this one has to provide.

Fragrant, green olives, Wondeful inner mouth perfume and energy, great balance, light to medium bodied, ripe underlying tannins, clean and gorgeous acidity. This is very refreshing and nothing is out of place. Vibrant, fresh, lengthy finish. Elegant wine. If only all Chianti's could be like this ...

Some recent Italians; 10/1/2005-2/5/2006: Beautiful once again. Smooth, sophisticated, marvellous sangiovese fruit and nose. Perfect expression of Chianthi in my book, excellent with pasta/ meatball supper.

A few Italians; 9/20/2005-9/26/2006: One of my favorite Chianti's and one where I find some of the feminine grace of a good Margaux .Brilliantly weighted wine, that's all elegance and silk whilst shouldering a subtly concentrated and remarkably persistent palate of fruit and forest. Delicious.

Delicious Chianti with a meal of chicken marsala (with sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions), pappardelle, and steamed broccoli. The nose is ripe with surprising elements of cocoa amidst the expected saddle leather and briar. The palate is briary and a little hot with a slightly aggressive mouthfeel from the acid, not well integrated enough to merit an outstanding effort. Still, this is satisfying and enjoyable both with the meal and to sip on its own.

Another of my 'house' wines, something that's always in my rack. This is textbook Chianti in my book, elegant, with lovely savoury fruit that is both complex and generous; first sip seems a little austere, then the spicy Sangiovese element seems to build and get more persistent with every moment. It kind of reminds me of Pinot in is lightweight body but heavyweight flavour profile. I suspect there may be some international variety, cab or merlot in the mix, but it is well integrated and certainly not overdone. Cool as an Armani suit.

Leather, soy, balsa wood, asian spices, backed by dense fruit. There's a touch of brett I disliked in the nose. It's nothing horrible, just a mild detractor for me.

Very nice Chianti, its hard edges rounded off by some maturity but still typically fresh on the palate with rather high acidity.
