This was amazingly alive, and can likely go on for longer. Tertiary, of course. Tons of cigar box, leather, smoke and violet. A real treat. What i most enjoyed was the balance - well integrated tannins and acid, with the stewed fruit. Definitely benefited from a relatively short decanting.

Needed a "A" back up plan for the 82 Lafite that was lower fill. This was the best 82 Pavie I have had in many years. It reminded me of why I loved it back during the early peak window. Serious bottle variation over last 4 tasted. This one was the best and great timing for an incredible dinner at 1862. Beautful example of this with the fruits of old but more refined and slighly faded but definitely present and just delightful secondary and tertiiary elements and a gorgeous mouthfeel. Denser in color and feel from last few. 97

80's Bordeaux (Friend's house): This wine has a special place because it was one of the first 'real wines' that we just pulled out during COVID because daily drinkers work sometimes but sometimes it's nicer to drink better. And this is certainly many steps up from the daily drinker category. It's to me a truly lovely wine. Very bright. Red fruits. Granite. In a nice drinking window but not going anywhere anytime soon. I really appreciated it.

Opened for lunch with Durand. One of my favorite wines when it was at peak in the late 1990s. Mid neck fill. Minimal sediment. Decanted and it was ready to go. Great news as the last two prior bottles were 1) flat and essentially dead when I tasted 2) corked and undrinkably maderized when my sister tasted. This one was immediately what I remembered though a bit less opulent than at peak. Lovely floral and fruit aroma and crimson color. Plenty of dark and dry red fruit, tobacco, vanilla and cocoa, saved some for dinner as opened something very special alongside for my 60th bday. This one still seems young enough to hold. Hope future bottles are like this one!! I enjoyed this more than 1982 la Dominique and 1990 Ducru Beaucaillou drank yesterday. Drink now with back up plan. 95

Really enjoyed this. The nose just jumps out of you. Had to decant for sediment and honestly cork since even with the Durand opener the cork crumbled. Didn't matter at all. Just drank very nicely. Lots got coffee and cocoa but I got some more bell pepper and almost a hint of green notes but in a really nice way. It's delicious.

Bordeaux April 2020 First time with this beaty was in 1991, a few bottles since, It has now become an elderly gentleman with a lot charme, back then it was of course much more massive, more power, but it still has enormes amount of fruit left, tobacco, leather, dark fruit, prune classic St Emilion, perfect harmony now at almost 40'th ... . if well store it can easily be 50th ! Opened and needed a bit of time to find it's stride. Decanted for sediment and then recognized it needed a bit of air. This is a nice aged Bordeaux prob right at the peak of drinking window. The piece I liked the most was a slightly sharp, almost a bit metallic taste. There was a precision to this wine. Very clean. Very enjoyable. Went pretty perfectly with a bone-in fillet from Capital Grille (that was pretty awesome actually) as part of their take-away Easter dinner.

Half bottle. Was worried about the TCA when first decanted and tasted. It eventually blew off and what was left was great expression of the right bank and a classic old style Pavie- which was refreshing and left me longing for the pre-Perse days. Notes of spice and tobacco on the nose. Drink up, it will not be getting any better.

'82 Bordeaux and Friends (Rene's): (Tasted blind) Charcoal, toast, red raspberry, softer on the palate; great acid and a touch of soft tannin on the finish. This wine changed its style a lot with time open. It was expressive at first, closed up a bit, then came back. Definitely right bank.

Right Bank Premier Grand Cru Classe "A" Bordeaux tasting (Karl's house): Had this wine a year ago, and this bottle was consistent with that one. A nice nose, but awkward on the palate. The fruit is fading. Black currant, barnyard, leather, mushroom, and chocolate. Rustic on the palate. Tannins almost fully resolved. A medium length finish with high acidity. Drink this now if you have it.

The wine pleased the people at the table who were not real wine drinkers. A few of us (wine snobs who know the beauty of the 82 vintage) knew this was not in the same category as the other benchmark examples. Solid, but lacked the complexity, freshness, and lingering finish found in other wines of the vintage. This is a wine to drink now, as I can't imagine any improvement with further cellaring.

Pour after open 30 minutes. Cassis , dry forest , saddle , strong terrior, smell is dry and show character is paste a peak time . But in mouth fruit is jam , yummy , great fruit , nice balance. Classic and elegance.
Last glasses is after 2 hours , it's show amazing terrior , deep and wide and clean st.emillion style. Fruit is still jam and big fruit.
Can kept it over 3 -5 years

1982 Right Bank vs. Left Bank Blind (Berkeley): Group's #8; my #8; 1 first; 1 second; 3 third; 8 last. Aromas and flavors of wet earth, cedar, leather, and red fruits. Medium-bodied, with low fruit concentration, and a shortish finish. Others thought that this was corked.

V green Cabernet franc fruits dominating. But yet plump round fruits. Seemingly right bank classical styled st emillion. Not as fruit bombish as I expected this controversial Parker favoured wine to be.

End of the World Dinner (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): I enjoyed this tremendously. It had a lovely nose, very savoury at first, with meat and earth and tons of tobacco scents floating around some ripe, almost stewed notes of black cherry and cassis. With a bit of time, bits of herb and spicy bramble emerged, along with a beautifully sweet floral accent. What a wonderful nose. The palate was a lovely expression of sappy fruit flavours as well, with really ripe plums, black cherries and cassis tones. These were very 1982 in their warm succulence, yet also nicely lifted with by juicy acidity and a lovely seam of spice and tobacco that ran through the wine. With time, a nicely salty bacon note started coming out on the midpalate as well. This was so yummy, and quite lovely with a couple of pork dishes on the menu. My only grouse is perhaps that it was not as deep or persistent on the backpalate as I would expect from such a great vintage, but even there it had its charms, with silky tannins leading into a gentle finish of plum and prune flavours seasoned with a good amount wood spice and cigar. Really nice, and drinking beautifully at the moment.
Drank with The Don at Kowloon Tang. Good, but not amazing. Apparently new ownership in '98 has taken this wine to a new level. Will try '00 with The Don some night.

After 30 years, not much of this wine is left. Although tasters who think Perse ruined Pavie will probably like the wine more than I did. There is a stemmy quality to the earthy, tobacco, cranberry and spice nose. Medium bodied, with a tartness to the cherry finish. It was interesting to compare this with one of the modern, Perse era Pavie wines.

Occupy Spoof comes to town. (Joe's.): Easily the best bottle of this wine I've had to date. I've usually found the wine to be a bit too weedy and thin, but this bottle had wonderful balance and fruit levels. Fully integrated and showing lovely elegance, there's a tasty mélange of red cherry and plums with decaying leaves, earth and a touch of herb. Given its integration and secondary development, I'd say the wine isn't going to get better, but it's in a beautiful spot right now. A-.

My second Magnum of this classic St-Emilion. Though only a year ago the first was a bit more fruit forward, while the second 03/11 was more austere. Started to really come out it's shell after 1.5 hrs decant and another 1.5 hours in glass. Last one I think deserves a 3 hour decant. An elegant wine, well balanced if not so clean on the palate. It has aged well and has plenty left to show. More minerality and earthy tones than expected in an 82 Bordeaux, but probably more true to teh St Emilion style. It is a real thinking persons wine. Quite contemplative.

I think the RP notes pretty much nailed it. Two key characters stand out. Herbaceous (not Cab Sauv type) and not a great deal of concentration. To be fair this is pretty decent aged claret at its peak and paired well with steak. Very smooth, very classy and calm but not a blockbuster. Drink up.

– popped and poured into a decanter immediately before consuming – – tasted non-blind over 2.5 hours –
NOSE: intense and expressive, showing a tertiary blackberry aroma with a strong supporting note of leather and a hint of horsiness; complex.
BODY: medium to medium-full bodied; mahogany core with bricking throughout; color was of medium-deep depth (was surprised it was as dark as it was considering its age); cork soaked about halfway, and the bottom ½" broke-off during the uncorking.
TASTE: quite smooth on the palate, with smoky leather and aged underbrushy blackberry taking center stage; a noticeable mineral aspect and a hint of horsiness added complexity; a little oak; finish was approximately two minutes long, and was of moderate to moderate-great intensity; tannins are integrated, but still barely noticeable; decent acidity; well-balanced; alcohol not noticeable. Very nice, sound bottle. I don’t see this getting better with additional age, but I do believe it could ride for at least a couple more years without losing much, if anything.

Decanted and tasted with dinner at the Somerset. Lobster risotto, lamb chops with cilantro. A bright red, rich plummy wine that is still showing well with a good nose and a nice curranty feel on the palate. Well-balanced not as long as some wines but just about what one would want in classic aged claret. Probably not a lot of years left here-- drink up in the next few.

Dirty moldy cork that came out in one piece and then quickly decanted into a open carafe. Dirty sox smell that didn't blow off for hours. Quite pronounced stink at the beginning that slowly eased over time. At about 45 min. in the carafe it was declared "corked". Behind the off nose you could find soft tannins and high fruit that I associate with a older Bordeaux but with a dirty sock in your glass it was hard to enjoy this 28 year old wine. Since I had held this for 25 years I wasn't ready to pour it down the sink. I poured myself a big glass and kept trying it through the evening. At about 3 hours I found the fruit and tannins were winning the glass. At four hours I had a nice complex elegant Bordeaux. I learned two things with this wine... I will decant my next bottle of '82 Pavie for at LEAST 4 hours. And I will give older bottles some time to wake up before I pass judgement.

Cork was half-saturated but broke during extraction. Did not decant. Colour is a bright red with only very slight signs of bricking. Very fresh nose still, with a lot of plummy fruit, as well as notes of green peppers. Slightly spicy nose; no earthiness. On the palate, immensely rich, with layers of ripe red and black fruits (especially plums and figs). Extremely pleasant, almost caramel mouthfeel. Low acidity, velvety tannins, and notes of cedar and smoke on the finish. Finishes long. Certainly hedonistic, and simply quite brilliant.

Dark ruby without bricking, tanins have receded; very solf. Modest nose and complexity. While a very good wine, my expectations were high given the vintage and the last 82 Pavie (a cellarmate of this one) about ten years ago, and it did not really impress me. Was better ten years ago - or at least that bottle was.

Showed very well - above expectations - classic aged Bordeaux - yes the finish was a little shorter than other 82's, but then they also cost 3x more. For the money, this wine is drinking very well - although, I would polish of any supplies in 750ml within the next 1-3 years.

Still dark, a touch of brett which then disappeared with air. This is ripe, still plenty of fruits and cedar with low acidity. I was somewhat surprised by the short finish. Overall, very nice to drink but lacks true excitment. Has many years left in tank though.

This bottle showed better than my previous bottles of this wine, previous bottles were flat without the aromatics and complexity that this bottle exhibited. I bought a case of this and always suspected that it had suffered in storage before I boght the wine. Time seems to have helped this particular bottle; maybe it was from the middle of the case and did not suffer as much. At any rate this showed good fruit still and a wonderful bottle bouquet. This is glorious aged Bordeaux. I would suspect that well stored bottles of this wine still have plenty of life.

Wispy smoke, tobacco, blackcurrant, cedar and some briary characters. This bottle was right at its peak for my taste, it is balanced with soft but long intensity of flavour. This was great, although I would be drinking any remaining bottles over the next couple of years.

thank god the wine is just tired and not exhausted. especially since this was a half bottle. this is a remarkable wine from a great vintage. wonderful dose of truffle laden earth under the capsule. cork is saturated but was extracted intact. wine has youthful color. very pleasant nose with vinous and earthen qualities. not much skeleton left but flesh is far from moribund. pleasant experience lasts for about 15 minutes, after which things start to fall apart. i agree with recent notes from other members that this wine needs to be drunk sooner rather than later.

Had this with Luc at Ferry House in Princeton. Luc lives in Paris and we drink some good bottles each year when he visits. Last year it was 1982 Pichon Lalande. My last bottle of 82 Pavie was this year's choice. We both agreed this wine was past its prime. However, still quite good. Typical old world Bordeaux. Balanced, a bit of fruit and very soft. We drank it with Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2 wines were completely different. I definitely preferred the old tired Pavie!!!! The Ramey is an in your face new world wine and 15% aclcohol.

This bottle was too old. When opened the wine was very faded. After an hour things picked up dramatically and it became quite enjoyable. Good bouquet and light bodied. There was little or no fruit left but since we had with fish it was good that ir was not overpowering. Past its peak.

Interesting comparison to the young trio - ‘98, ‘99, ‘00. The Pavie of this era is pale, tired and weak. Forgettable. Easily outshone by the ‘82 Pavie.

The nose on this wine presented some must at first, but it wore off with time in the decanter. I then found sweet cedar, balsamic and strawberry on the nose. It was quite pleasant. The palate was of medium weight and lacked complexity, but it presented a sweet, resolved palate. The mouthfeel gained in weight with time open.

Steaks at home with Jason. Very light color. Right from the get-go this wine exuded an elegant nose of sweet cedar, spice and soy. This wine is beautifully resolved with a silky texture, very spicy and cedary with a pure, sweet character. There is nothing here that screams outstanding, yet this is elegant and delicious, very enjoyable, very classy.

Bright disc with deep brick red/brown robe. Brown rim. The nose is clean, showing moderately intense cedar, earth, cigar box and light plum. The palate shows a relative high-acid attack (especially for a 1982 Bordeaux), medium body and ample yet supple tannins. The flavors are dominated by wood (cedar and oak), with tobacco, mint and slight plum wrapped in a package of earthiness. These same flavors carry through the mid-palate. The finish is medium, slightly acidic (again, rather surprising for an '82), and shows similar wood flavors as the attack and mid-palate. This wine is pleasant but definitely past its peak.

With MPL and BLR at the LWB welcoming Marne back from France. Developed ruby color. Viscous, with great legs. Nice ruby robe. Bouquet well-developed; a tad alcoholic, raisiny. Palate is full and fruity. Just a bit hot. The finish is a bit tannic and somewhat bitter. I think this one has reached its peak--and perhaps gone slightly over. Too overripe for its own good. 5-9-12-5: 81/100.

While a very good wine, my expectations were high given the vintage and the last 82 Pavie (a cellarmate of this one) about ten years ago, and it did not really impress me.
