Good but not great. needs air (was better the second day). The nose was at first pretty closed and got more open the second day. Showed some evolution but remained discreet. On the palate, nice texture with round tanins and decent length. Not sure it will be interesting to keep it longer.

At first a nose of rose hips and redcurrant, in the decanter it takes on a pelegonium metallic aroma that I’ve detected before in 03s ie hot vintage. Some fruit but a browning wine, gravy, meaty aromas. Holds up for an hour and a half but better, if lighter, when first decanted. Drink now.

A blend of Syrah (40%), Mourvèdre (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Counoise (10%).
Luminous, dark purplish cherry red with slightly translucent core and more brighter, slightly orange rim. The nose is big, sweet and very expressive with aromas that convey the hot temperatures of 2003 very well: there voluptuous aromas of rich cassis, succulent plums, sweet blackberry jam, some roasted spices, a little bit of leather and a hint of cherry marmalade. The age has rounded off the edges a little bit and accentuated those sweeter elements of the fruit by introducing a touch of dried fruit character, but otherwise the nose feels still very youthful. The wine is very broad, ripe and full-bodied on the palate with rich, meaty and even a bit unctuous flavors of black cherries, brambly blackberries, ripe blackcurrants, some developed raisiny fruit, a little bit of juicy plummy fruit, a hint of stony bitterness and a touch of umami. The wine feels somewhat balanced, but overall the wine feels more fruit-driven than structured, as the acidity is medium-to-modest and the tannins pretty mellow and rounded out by the age. The finish is long, supple and juicy with moderately matured flavors of ripe blackberries, some meaty tones, a little bit of fresh blackcurrants, light spicy character of black pepper, a hint of raisin and a touch of hot, sun-baked stones.
A stylish, supple and very fruity vintage of Grange des Pères that reminds me a lot of vintage 2006, but with more developed, mature fruit. Both these vintages are relatively fruit-forward with very soft and supple structure that retains very little tannic grip and lets the sweet, at times even a bit jammy fruit take the lead. Not the most impressive or memorable vintage of GdP, but perfectly enjoyable on its own. Maybe a bit too soft and mellow to pair with food and probably won't be developing much further from here. Feels pretty overpriced at 125€.

A very balanced wine where the ultrawarm 2003-vintage does not dominate. Actually the wine is surprisingly kept and this is impressive. Quite developed and quite complex. Drink soon.

89-90 pts

Light ruby color. Muted nose of stewed fruits, stemmy tobacco, caper berry, oxidized metal. Thin, hollow, slightly oxidized and tawny palate, very faint fruit, lingering bitterness. Not giving any pleasure at all. Possibly an abused bottle, not scored.

Took 45 minutes to open up and started to break down a little 3 hours later. A great wine to serve blind as it is unplaceable. Nice soft smoke, dark red fruit, solid but velvety tannins (like all Grange des Peres I've had).

89-90 pts

A surprising wine. The palate is somewhat reminiscent of a Russian River Valley pinot--bright cherries, rose petals, delicate, fresh and lively. The nose is more syrah-like--meaty, a hint of smoke. Somehow it works. Delicious.

Grange des Peres vertical (Robersons): Pale ruby. Clear and bright, clean. Darker fruit aromas than the 2004, - more black cherry, and a touch of raisin too sadly. The palate is fleshy, tannins are as yet unresolved and seem a little green, and it finishes a little warm. Medium - acidity. This cannot avoid reflecting the vintage. GFWII.

Wednesday Night Blind - March 2010 (Peter Pratt's Inn): Corked! Our first corked bottle at one of these tasting, not a bad run. Too bad it had to be this wine as I would have loved to see what it tasted like. You could sense the underlying depth of the wine, but the TCA really killed the nose and the fruit. A shame.

A private lunch (Restaurant Oud Sluis ***, Sluis, Netherlands): Great finesse, even in this hot vintage. Open and rich nose, ripe fruit (but not jammy), good depth, minerality, cedar, hint of nuts; velvety, juicy, elegant weight, the most beautiful satiny texture, good weight and length. Now - 2013.

Continues to drink very well. Vaillel must have picked early to avoid the torrefaction that is commom to the vintage. Also must have taken steps in fermentation to minimize Brett. Good fruit, a balanced and lighter styled Grange de Peres. Can't believe WS gave it a 78!

Decanted for 45 minutes before traveling to Pastis. Much deeper that last bottle(10 months ago), which probably suffered from a warm restaurant environment. Still this is an atypical Grange des Peres, especially for the hot 2003 vintage. He must have picked early to avoid a stewed effect. But this is an excellent light Grange with good red fruits. Ellen, Paul and Arlene amazingly much preferred it to the 97 Cerreto Barolo Briice Rocche?

On song from the moment the bottle was opened. Quite light in colour, and light and fine on the palate as well. Nice finish, long and spiced, perhaps reflecting oak. Nothing about it that says "hot vintage" to me. It's my first bottle of this wine, and if I didn't know I might have guessed Northern Rhone instead of Languedoc. It has class. vg+

At La Galoue, Bal Harbor w Steve & Joyce Rapaport. Very good, but surprisingly lighter than older vintages. The hot 2003 French vintage is an enigma. Chateaneuf du Papes are great, chablis' too rich, and the Grange des Peres surprisingly light?

beautiful deep rich nose...smells smooth as silk. none of the burnt smell that shows up in so many 03 cdp. silky and rich in the mouth with red/blue berries a smack of oak (hopefully will go away over time) along with some floral and meat notes. still very young but very enjoyable. huge, long, fruity finish with a twist of bitter. not much acidity. nice, rich wine and should improve. held up nicely on day 2. my only complaint is that this wine is almost too pretty and at this time, does not have a sense of place.
