Stunning, serene Spätlese at a wonderful plateau where the fruit is still very fresh and vibrant, but is augmented by plenty of smoky development. The mineral, floral, fruit, and savoury elements here all combine into a seamless, nearly weightless whole that's drinking amazingly well right now.

Greet Adira and small BYO at our place (Clinton Hill, Brooklyn): Rich, sweet-honey, grapes, apricot, spicy. soft. I have 'delicious' as well, but soon afterwards, the wine began to show itself as really soft, and quite tired. This didn't have enough acid or backbone to impress me.

Domaine End of Year Party (Chicago, IL): Apples and peaches on the nose and palate. Very restrained but completely open. Just a fantastic bottle, and I'm happy to have been able to catch it at this moment right now.

A little quiet aromatically initially, it gives the impression that it's slightly closed but really opens out with a couple of hours of air. Over time a beautiful floral aroma develops, and on the palate there are layers of pure Riesling fruit tinged with mineral and savoury developing accents. The balance is superb with a sense of remarkable elegance and understatement here, though I'll leave my hands off other bottles for a few more years.

Yellow. Nose initially had a whiff of bottle stink but blew off to yield a lemon/lime mix with a cream on top. Taste was also initially Kabinett level but opened with time to Spatlese, lemon/lime and the cream again. Nice. The 2002s seem to be drinking well, whiel the 2001s are slowly opening. I'm drinking the 2002s for now.

In a great place right now, combining fresh, still youthful Mosel fruit and slate with the start of developing smokiness and creaminess. Very layered and complex with superb balance and length.

The Salon's first lab (Mirabelle Restaurant Austin, Texas): Had bright, tropical fruit and less viscosity than expected. Some tasters were surprised how well it drank, with spicy apricot, quince, key lime peel, and very ripe fruit notes, with sweet, high acidity at the back-end.

Sweet white flowers and ripe red berries on the nose with just a touch of kerosene in the background; punctual and serious in the mouth; flavors of clean slate and almost-ripe pear, bundled hay and ripening grapefruit, all perfectly delineated and unanimous in their disapproval of the infanticide I just committed.

Thursday riesling tasting at David's house. My favorite wine of the night. Light straw color. Beautiful, penetrating nose of full of slate with a strong floral note as well. Perfectly balanced, with long, bright flavors of apple, slate, and even some raspberry. Very complex.

Ripe peach on both the nose and palate. Not too sweet, and drinking well tonight.

Bronze-gold colored in the glass, with sweet tropical fruits on the nose.
Sweet fruit balanced by decent acidity on the palate - good persistence. Not sure if this will get any better, but it's pretty good tonight.
