Served with grilled flank steak marinated in shallots, garlic, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cilantro and cayenne pepper. Poured both this Cabernet and a 2013 Chappellet Malbec with coravin to see which varietal was the better pairing. With the meal, the Malbec was the better foil. However, unaccompanied, I preferred the Round Pond. Deep purple in color. Rich black fruit dominate, with notes of vanilla and cocoa. Some notes of bitterness emerge over the course of a long finish. Also, the dusty texture emerges toward the end of the finish.

This was very smooth snd effortless, almost too much so in that it seemed to lack anything distinctive; it was missing some personality. Still, it really was very polished.

Light to medium red with faint signs of bricking at the edges. Strong vanilla and roses, over-ripe sweet plum flesh, and black pepper on the nose. Raspberries, sugared rose petals, gripping, chalky tannins, and a intense cherries. Very smooth, almost silky mouth-feel. Day two of the Napa trip.

PNV week, part of a 2005-11 vertical on Rutherford Estate wines. This was #2 in the group in my scorecard, departure from the group who rated it 5th. Nose was fruit forward and Bordeaux-like. Tannins resolved, elegant wine

This was a good wine. Very dark, black in color. Nice nose smelling of traditional Napa Cabernet. Fruits on taste were muted, more in the sense of closed. First glass felt like good aged 10+ year old Cabernet. Letting it sit did nothing to open it up. This is 2005! Should not be this muted. Have had more recent vintages and this is not the case for younger Round Pond's. This is not a good sign for long term cellaring. Maybe stored bad or just an off bottle. Still though, this wine was a nice. Drink now.

Nice big wine. A little tight, may wait another year to open the next bottle.

Concentrated dark cherry, spice and tobacco. Low acidity. Decent tannins early. Gets flabby with air. Just dies over time. Past peak.

Nice wine. Dark fruit and cranberry on the nose. Needs time to breathe to bring out its best.

A Night of Classic Cabernet (9/23/2009) (Wine Discount Center Barrington): A bit minty for my taste but that could soften with air or time.
