Pretty classic and predictable. There are some pretty dried currant and potpourri notes. The tannins have melted completely, though the texture of them remains a bit coarse. The finish is drying out and this is on the decline, and I get the feeling shortening with each passing year. Drink if you have, nothing more to give with this one.

I really loved this wine, as I've come to understand that I love this bottling from Guigal almost without exception. The exoticism and potent fragrance were just magical. And it changed a lot over the course of several hours spent savoring out of doors while cooking over a charcoal fire. It was noticeably more fresh than the wonderful 2013, if a bit less complex and deep. It is always remarkable to me that this particular bottling of Saint Joseph, seeing as much as 30 months in new oak, never comes off as oaky. With time, the lovely vanilla and mocha elements imparted by the barrels just add nuance and intrigue. Bacon becomes maple bacon, harsh cracked pepper becomes star anise and cinnamon in the best of ways. I look forward to trying some older bottles I have to see just what the sweet spot is for Guigal Hospices.

Wow, this wine is monumentally delicious! Sweet herbs, black currant, mint, cedar, sage, anise, licorice, black truffle, and pencil shavings. The fruit is ripe and sun-kissed. Extremely complex with a knockout finish. An icon for a reason.
