Singing cherry syrup on the nose, but you can smell a dusty undercurrent.
Similarly, the palate is beautifully clear, on onset, but then a bit of earthiness, and an explosion of tangy acidity, maybe with a touch of energizing acetic acid. It's light- to mid-bodied, but mouth-filling. Finishes with some fine but drying tannin. It's a food-friendly profile that is really useful and under-represented in wines in the US.

What starts out as wood smoke and graphite, somehow evolves into crushed cherries, raspberries and rubbed sage as 2018 Etna Rosso Arcuria blossoms in the glass. This is supremely silky and pure with juicy acidity energizing its red and blue berry fruits, further complemented by hints of tangerine and rosy inner florals. There are only nuances of fine-grained tannins that linger, as hints of licorice and a bitter tug of pips and seeds slowly fade. While the 2018 is perfectly seated in its drinking window, I do advise an hour decanting. -- as well as a large-bowled Burgundy glass.

This wine is concentrated and complex with lots of character. It’s quite a challenge to try to pick out all the flavors, but for starters, I’ll go with cranberry, papaya, rose water, and star anise. The mouthfeel is at once fresh and juicy, yet also thick and tannic. Objectively, this is great wine. Subjectively, I don’t like it much. The overall flavor and textural profile don’t appeal much to me.

Boisterous fruit with a pinot-like structure. Red berries and peaches with hints of spice. Light body, bright acidity, grippy tannins.

Flavor of red berries. Quite nice and elegant in the mouth. Just easy.
