  • Another wine that tasted so youthful, like it's hardly evolved. Still had primary dark fruits (black-berries), but with tannins well resolved/concealed. Some leafy notes came through that added a bit to the complexity. Nice, but could certainly use more cellar age!

  • * Decanted 5 hours before serving.

Lovely Gaffeliere from one of my favorite vintages in Saint Emillion.

Color - Garnet core wit noticeable bricking on the the rim.

Nose - Pronounced tertiary notes of tawny port, with more subtle anise, leather, pine and forrest floor in the background. Quite mature, but lovely and seductive.

Mouth - Medium bodied, velvety soft tannins that still support a good core of dark fruit and a complex finish with notes of dark chocolate, herbs, black pepper and sage.

Likely passed its peak, but still showing excellent complexity and lively fruit and structure.

91 points in the night. Drink up now

  • CdB BoG; 1/25/2024-1/27/2024 (Denver): Lost my notes but very favorable memories, great wine and drinking well with plenty of life remaining.
Rich dark fruited, good intensity on the nose and palate.

  • Color medium complexity. Brick leaning garnet. Clear halo. 1998 an excellent year. Musk on the nose jumps out. Red currant. Floral notes (delicate crushed rose petal) This wine still has a lot of life in it! On the palate, it was a bit thin. Perhaps it was decanted too long ago? I would like to try this with less air on it on another occasion.

  • Davyd's Bday celebration at ESBK. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of strong leather, grilled herbs, dark cherries, blackberries, blackcurrant, hint of tertiary earth. Developed.
On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), structured high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of strong leather, blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrant, grilled herbs, tertiary earth with a hint of mushroom. Broad long finish spreading out all over the tongue.
Excellent quality. Sat in decanter for 2.5 hours and did not go downhill, maintaining structure. Better bottle than the one I had before. Drinking beautifully at peak.
