Interesting beast. On opening a little pinched with notes of cranberry and red currant. In the mouth a little dry with a gentle entry but slightly punchy and spicy mid-palate. Then an exotic North African market note (rose + ?) not unlike harissa. Some baked earth of warm air. A little brooding too. A little drama and tension kept it interesting. Left for an hour it filled out and got younger and fruitier but actually quite a lot duller. Perhaps a little closed? A silkier palate but a toward the end a lesser wine.

Pours light in the glass. classic pinot color with some bricking noted. The nose is somewhat reticent, but what is there is lovely. Nose of rose petal, perfume, toast, cedar, spices, and herbal bitters gently waft. The palate is densely structured with medium tannin and medium minus acid, while finishing on light citrus tinged, red fruited acid and some woody elements. I figure this has seen some new oak that is still in the process of integrating. This is coming together but I think it could really still use another 5 - 10 years. Nice wine that I'm glad I checked in on.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Pinot Noir versus Spätburgunder (@ RW): Some barnyard, red berries and vanilla in the somewhat perfumed bouquet. On the palate juicy fruits, like strawberries, laurel, oak, vanilla and herbs. Good acidity and still slightly sticky tannin.

Light to medium bodied. A bit tannic and austere on day 1. Lacked fruit and complexity. Much better on day 2 as the tannins settled and some light red fruit emerged. Potential to gain a point or two with in a few years.

3rd and final bottle tried. Best of the bunch. Finally showing fruit and elegance. Drink now.
