Chandon de Briailles Tasting: Grippy tannins, fresher and more dense than 2019 currently. Very palate with darker fruits coming through. Good power, elegant and not brooding feel though.

Medium ruby color. Medium aromas of stewed red plum, black tea, mushroom, forest floor, bay leaf, blood. Medium body, high acidity, dry, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium(+) finish. Fantastic herby and earthy nose, but it lacks a bit of intensity and finish to be a top quality Bordeaux. Very elegant. Drinking beautifully now and should be good in next 5 years.

A few wines for Chinese New Year (Chicago, IL): A very interesting take on a very ripe vintage. I think the houses that do make the wines in a cooler style produce some really interesting wines in vintages like 2018 and this bottle is certainly a case in point. An interesting herbaceousness here (which is probably the house style), but coupled with the ripe fruit, you get the sense that this is a wine being pulled in two directions at once. But this does end up being quite balanced. Not quite as burly and rustic as I might have expected from Savigny without any further context.

Pausing for the Cause 2022 (Part 2) (Chicago, IL): Very 2018 with its generous ripe fruit, but the stem inclusion and the light touch here actually give this wine plenty of lift as well. Clean and fresh, with moderate tannins here, this is very exuberant and fun to drink now, but I expect good longevity as well.
