  • From a perfectly stored magnum. This was good out of the bottle but with an hour of air in the glass it really opened up and was great. Dark red fruits, very concentrated, but much more open and expansive on the palate with the additional air. In a great spot right now but should hold for quite some time. A

  • Toast, lots of toast! This was what struck me immediately. Black-fruited & meaty, with a touch of rusticity & wildness/animal character. Don't think it'll improve any further with cellar age...

  • Splash decanted and brief taste 90 minutes later. This needed time to open and then was reasonably good but very 1999. It may have been better if I were able to taste it again later in the evening, but was not able to get back to it. A-

  • 1 of 2, excellent cork. Purchased in 2006 from a reputable UK merchant and stored since in my cellar.

Medium garnet core, pale garnet / mahogany rim. Aromatic, showing damson and plum fruit, soil, game - touch of antique furniture. Noble, complex.

Medium bodied, pure fruited, plenty of savour (game) here too - soft, supple tannins, fresh acids, very long, harmonious finish. This has lovely weight and prescence and a compelling combination of sweet and savoury flavours. Outstanding - drinking well but no hurry - now and for at least 10 years. Chapeau Thierry!

  • Basically a PnP, but the wine did improve modestly over the course of an hour. Certainly at its peak, which could extend for 2+ years but a lovely balance of ripe, but not overripe, black cherry, with a sauvage character to it. Very interesting and enjoyable. 30 second finish.

Burgundy-Report

(Lambrays Clos des Lambrays) The aromatics are high-toned with faint notes of cedar. The palate has a little width though the flavours are attenuated. Tainted or tight - ? - either way a poor bottle.
