  • Double blind tasting
Unfortunately this wine was completely dominated by significant VA which never blew off enough to even attempt a guess at the wine - smelled like nail polish remover
Don't see any other CT notes regarding this so hopefully this was a bottle defect

  • Wine fault, so rating withheld
    Medium purple, unfiltered
Aromatics medium +. Prominent nail polish, volatile acidity that dominates wine preventing other aromatics. Later some 2 day old dry grass clippings.
Palate has a medium body. Acid medium +. Alcohol medium +. Tannins medium. The VA still predominates on the palate followed by a bitter, medicinal, old fashioned cough syrup note.
Finish has a medium + length that is poorly balanced given the volatile acidity.
This was my only 2011 bottle from a Garagiste 12 bottle vertical received about 3 weeks ago. I will try my 2012 bottle soon to decide if this is a Garagiste issue or just a bad bottle.

  • In a really good spot, to my tastes. Kicking off lots of sediment, but some fruit still present; soft and silky on the back end; well balanced - very nice.

(Opened it to go with some goodies - like meatballs, cheese, and a killer artichoke/roasted red pepper focaccia - we brought back from Italian markets in Pittsburgh's Strip district. But given that we let our 16 year old son drive home to get some experience on his learner's permit ... just about anything with alcohol was going to be welcomed ;)

  • lovely wine, way out of it's league, natural wine making with no added yeasts, no filtration, lovely with cheese plater, mature notes on the nose, but a lot of fruit on the palate, nose with time becomes like chocolate, good acidity, fresh and drinkable
