Color: black with red highlights. Viscous legs Nose: medium/full intensity. Very alcoholic aroma that masks whatever dark fruit exists. Body/flavor: medium/full body. No longer balanced with noticeable tannins. Alcohol predominates the flavors Aftertaste: short and hot
Agree with other commentators -- sadly wine is over the hill

(Elena Fucci Aglianico del Vulture Titolo) Hello friends. Monte Vulture is an extinct volcano smack in the middle of Basilicata in southern Italy (due east of Naples). Its foothills contain vineyards planted almost entirely to one of the finest, longest-lived red varieties in Italy: Aglianico, here called Aglianico del Vulture DOCG. This is a part of Italy where the younger generations have been fleeing agriculture in droves. But Elena Fucci decided to stay, and to make exactly one wine each year: Monte Vulture is an extinct volcano smack in the middle of Basilicata in southern Italy (due east of Naples). Its foothills contain vineyards planted almost entirely to one of the finest, longest-lived red varieties in Italy: Aglianico. And Elena Fucci may just make the greatest Aglianico on Monte Vulture. Her ’11 is all blackberry fruit, star anise, and that very Italian sense of bitters, like a dash of Aperol in the mix. We have 32 extra bottles. Vinous: Copyrighted material withheld.

3/15/2024 - CPSchoeff Does not like this wine:
Tasted blind and called it tired and some astringency on the finish. Fruit is all raisins and cooked old fruit with some savory notes.
I rated it 7th of 9 in the blind lineup and the group of eight had it just barely 2nd place. Amazing how different palates can be!

Too old. Too old. Too bad. We’ll see where it goes after decanting.

Drink any time, plenty of sediment, chunky and angular. I’m not sure what it had left.
