The wine is in great shape- pours vibrant purple/red, with just a tiny hint of bricking. There's a very strong dark cherry note on the nose along with some distinct leather and earthy elements. Full in body, very fine tannins, medium acid. It's very suave in the mouth, feels great just swirling it around the palate. Most prominent flavor is of juicy black cherries, but there's also a note of umeboshi that seems to come and go, and a bitter medicinal type taste that reminds me of Robitussin. Leather on the finish.
The wine is enjoyable, I like drinking it, though the price is a bit steep for what it is, I think. Also, this is my first experience with Quintarelli and I had very high hopes. Not sure I understand what makes this wine capital-G Great. Perhaps I'm lacking the proper context as I don't drink much Valpolicella.

Nothing on the nose. Big wine with a resemblance to cherry-licorice cough syrup, especially with the high alcohol finish. No hint of tannins in this silky smooth Valpolicella. Decanted. Drink now.

Great mature valpolicella. Drink over next couple of years to retain fruit.

Not quite as balanced as last bottle. For sure ready for business but lacking a bit refinement tonight.
