  Cuvée de 1970 provenant d'un lot de 3 Magnums aux enchères fin 2022. Ouverte et servie de suite. Surpris par le fruité et tenue du vin en bouche. Servi avec légumes d'été confits (aubergines, poivrons, courgettes) et samosas au bœuf.

  Mid-high shoulder fill. Several glasses poured by Coravin over several nights. Cork seems loose, but the color is pristine: dark purple with almost no signs of bricking. Lots of cedar and sandalwood on the nose, with leafy forest floor and damson plum. Still alive after more than 50 years, with tart red berry flavors. This is hanging on by a thread, but still shows a lot of bright cherry fruit to go with the cigar box and anise notes. Amazingly, this filled out and improved with air. As a lover of older wines, I found this to be a fun experiment, and thoroughly enjoyable.

  Base neck fill. Color is terrific with no signs of bricking, but this has clearly seen better days. Nonetheless, for a 50-year old wine, this still has life, and shows a lot of cedar, sandalwood and sour cherry. I liked this quite a bit more than my wife.

  From a bottle with top shoulder/base neck fill. Youthful ruby-purple color with barely perceptible bricking. Knockout aromas of cedar, black cherry, currants, and a bit of dusty earth and oolong tea. The palate is a bit tired and can't quite live up to the expressive nose, but for a 50-year old lesser known grand cru classé, it's actually in remarkable shape. Tart red plum, loam, apple skin, and leather, with fully resolved tannins and a long finish with tobacco leaf and dried cherries. My best guess is this is in slow decline, but it is still quite enjoyable now. If you're not a fan of aged Bordeaux, you may like this less than me, but I found this to be a real pleasant surprise.
