This wine has been a bit of a roller coaster. My first bottle was acidic and imbalanced. My second bottle was better, but still not up to other vintages. Had my last bottle over the last three days. It was showing very well on initial opening, then became disjointed about two hours after opening. I recorked it, and returned to it today, on day #3, and found it to be drinking very well. Everything was in harmony.

Definitely in it’s prime! This was full bodied but balanced, with all the classic Napa cassis and oak notes. I found many of my 2015 Napa cabs to be overripe, not surprising given the severe drought that year, but this Becklyn was not.

I gave this bottle a double decant and then we consumed it over about 2.5 hours. This was a bit sweet, as has been my experience with most of the Becklyn wines. What was more unusual was that it seemed to be lighter bodied than any Mike Smith cab I ever have tasted. It was lacking in both tannins and acidity. I didn’t get the sense that it was tainted (no wet cardboard or other ‘off’ aromas), so I don’t really know what to make of that. On the whole, though, I’ve had less success with Becklyn cabs than any of Mike’s other brands. I know others really love them…

Better than expected. Mature with ripe full flavored fruit, still tannic but with a long smooth finish and not syrupy. Great value
