2005 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin (tasted at a Chevaliers event). Mid dark garnet; viscous; red fruit, iron, cedar nose; low-mid acids; low-mid tannins; round; ripe; good fruit for a village wine. 16.5 UC Davis scale, 91 other scales.

I enjoyed this wine quite a bit. Maybe because as a Village wine, it’s emerging from its 05 slumber before it’s bigger siblings. Had noice remaining fruit and plenty of grip and style. Glad to have more.

Rosewater, clay, and old wood furniture, noticeably dessicated quality. Fruit lurking off in the background somewhere. Started off understated but the last 20% was all muscle, like all of the tannin of the wine had concentrated at the bottom.
What an interesting journey. A cerebral wine that's sadly past peak. Drink up.

Deep color, no fading. The nose shows aromas of sexy oak, dark berries, flowers, minerals, and spices. This is medium full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and good class. Highly extracted and a touch rigid. The medium plus length finish features well integrated, large scaled tannins and good acid cut.

Burdgundy village wines from top producers (East Treasure, Clarke Quay, Singapore): Clearly the most extracted wine of the night. This was pretty impressive though. The nose smelt very much like a Vosne, with spicy, earthy, minerally tones swirling around a core of dark berry fruit and dried florals. Still a bit tight and unyielding on the bouquet I thought. I liked the palate better than the nose. Extracted for sure, with firm 2005 tannins and good acidity framing deep, wide flavours of dark cherries and berries, and then a decent finish dominated by earthy mineral. Great depth and power for a village, but lacking a bit of the finesse and elegance of quite a few of the other wines on the night. One for a long term though - this will be interesting to taste 8-10 years down the road.
