Decanted 2 hours. Very fragrant, with notes of violets, grilled meat, olives, baking spices and ground coffee. Flavors of black fruit, olive, smoke and toasty oak. Good stuff! Drink now - 2030.

I’m with Apple1813 on this one. After 45 min decant this was bacon jam on blackberry compote on top of toasted pumpernickel and a touch of olive tapenade. Really a delight. Massive aromatics. Great length. I know a friend with a couple of more!

2015 Betz Family La Côte Patriarche was perfumed, evolving and incredibly well-balanced. The Washington State Syrah was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. Freshly uncorked, there were inviting perfume of blackberry, blueberry, crushed violet and orange blossom. Two hours of aeration brought complexities of black pepper, earth, raw meat and black olives.
On the palate, it was dry and rather full-bodied, balanced with medium levels of acidity and finely grained tannin. Flavours of bramble, graphite, game and iron-like minerality persisted in a long delineated finish. The alcohol level was at 14%. With its aromatic perfume, silky texture and persistent aftertaste, it could rival examples from Côte-Rôtie. It was enjoyable at the moment, yet capable of another decade of careful ageing.
According to the winery website, the grapes came from two separate blocks from the steep well-drained slopes of Red Willow vineyard in Yakima Valley. The two blocks were planted in 1986 and 2000 respectively. The grapes were completely destemmed. The wine was aged in combination of 228-, 300-, and 500-litre barrels for ten months, followed by another year of bottle aging before release.

Purple in color. 14% ABV. Savory nose of dark fruits, olive brine, coffee and minerals. Full bodied with strong acidity. Dark and brooding. Black cherry, plums, charred meats and olives on the palate. Nice length on the finish with pronounced tannins. Approachable now with time in the decanter but certainly a wine that will age will for years to come. Best over the next 4-7 years.
