Geoff and Marion come down to visit! (Wanaka Wedge House, Queensberry, Central Otago, New Zealand): Suave, modern and opulent. Drinking at its peak of maturity, but showing no signs of drying at the moment. Stylistically, very much a mid-Tasman Syrah. It has a slight menthol, Hawkes Bay fruit personality, but the ripeness (some sur maturité) and richness feel almost Australian in weight and apparent sweetness of body. Very classy, and a very ripe interpretation of Syrah. Clearly a “luxury” wine, but one that delivers, even if it is not classic, in terms of approach.

Blackberries, blueberries, lots of graphite notes, some dried spices and beautifully forest floor notes are dominant. Medium (+) bodied with a refreshing medium intense acidity. The tannins are silky and beautifully integrated. Fruit depth is beautiful and shows a nice complexity. The overall balance is fantastic on this wine. Fruit, acidity, tannins - super harmonious and elegant! The finish is long, precise and savory. Fantastic now but it will definitely hold at least another 6-10 years if stored well. (IG)

Decanted 1 hour. Aromatic. Blackberry, plum, graphite, spice. Medium/full, with good concentration and depth of flavour. Plush tannins push though to the long finish. It’s a well made, varietal, polished wine that drinks well now.

Lovely if modern; dark color and fruit; subtle nose; really opens nicely after a couple of hours; expressive but not too fruity or hot; great balance.
