2021 Martinborough weekend with Kai, Marion and friends (Wairarapa, NZ): Served double blind with the Arlaud. Back on form here. Garnet colour but lively and bright. An enchanting bouquet of a mélange of red and black cherries and berries, kirsch and slaty minerals. In the mouth, intense, fresh and very youthful. Powerful and clean, crammed full of quite primary, opulent and ripe berry fruit. I guessed the vintage as 2009. Drinking very young, and very well, for a 2003. No sign of stereotypical 2003 overripe or jammy fruit. Excellent!

Consistent with previous tasting. For a ripe vintage, the candied fruit was balanced with medium acidity without being too jammy. Good spice and herbs on the nose and palate. An outperforming 03 red burgundy but certainly fruit forward. Drinking at peak now.

This bottle seems controversial based on ct reviews. Blind tasted this and no way this is a 03. Its very balanced with transperency and structure. I thought its an 06 given its accessible and balanced today. It has the vr spice, red fruit, and pepper.

Quit dark for a Burg, reticent nose that only emerged after half an hour in glass from pouring from bottle, not enough upfront Pinot attack, and some mid-palate strawberries and complexities of thyme, and finish of kirsch. Initially a 86 pointer, got better to 89 by the end with a fuller mid-palate. Will keep my rest for next year to develop more, hopefully. Very good with fatty tuna (toro) and uni (sea urchin) sushi.

A deep colour; very fragrant nose, with a mixture of black fruits; concentrated and rich on the palate, with good acidity and some tannin. Good length. This is still very fresh and should last for a while yet.
