Opened at Otto e Mezzo in HK. Slowly enjoyed over a long lunch.
This was wonderful bubbly. The colour was lighter than I would have expected from a 24 year old champagne, and still very fresh. The nose wafted white flowers and notes of honey, mixed in with grapefruit and citrus. Slightly richer accents of brioche, yeastiness and toastiness were there but took a bit of air to come more to the fore. Great acidity providing precision and balance throughout. Really enjoyable.
Great spot right now and very good for my tastes. Will keep at this level for a while assuming good provenance, and may even slightly improve. However if you have an itch for aged Cristal, don't hesitate to enjoy - this won't let you down! Thanks again to M for the wonderful treat.

(LOUIS ROEDERER CRISTAL) #1; Pierre Rovani says, "One of the finest Champagnes I have ever brought to my lips, the 1999 Cristal bursts from the glass with fresh hazelnut and apple scents. Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish.PR-98
(Cristal) This was tight, tight, tight. Beautiful fruit and minerality along with great cut on the palate. Not showing that much in the way of finesse right now but it will come with time. Easily the tightest young Cristal I have ever had.

Tasted it blind together with Cristal 1999, Cristal Vinotheque 1999 and Dom P2 2003 Among 7 friends, the verdict is mixed with no clear winner.
Dom P2 2003 have pronounced nose intensity with notes of toast, bread, mineral, sea shell. High acidity and long finish.
Cristal 1999 from palate taste similar to Dom P2, notes of toast, brioche, mineral, baked red apple.
Cristal Vinotheque 1999 tasted fresher, with green notes, grapefruit, lemon, pear, green apple.

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of sweet biscuit, toast, brioche, red apple. High acidity yet balance on palate. Drinking at its peak now.
