  • Solid village burg considering the vintage. In its drinking window now, this wine showed lightish red fruits and damp earth notes on the nose. On the palate, the predominant profile is tart red fruits. With air, some typical Vosne exotic spice becomes apparent on the nose. Has typicity, which is really all I ask considering I paid a bourgogne price for this. 87

  • Floral notes, red fruits, herbs, sous bois and a hint of citrusy acidity tickle the nose. On the palate, orange-clementine acidity puckers the mouth, and the tannins occasionally come off as slightly bitter if you really think about it. However, sweet fruit lingers on the finish, making up for any roughness around the edges that this wine has. On the whole, this wine pleases me admirably - it's not exceptional by any means, but it shows well considering that it's a village wine, from an unheralded vintage, and even more so because I paid a bourgogne price for it. Pretty color, light on the palate, unobtrusive alcohol level. Just a perfect example of why I find red burgundy to be so lovely - even a merely competent example can be so charming. 88 points on the merits, but I'm enjoying it like it's a 91 tonight; a whole that's more than the sum of its parts.

Update: this continues to show well on nights 2 (opened up even more) and 3. This is light in body, but tasty.

  • Light in color. Earthy, barnyardy Burgundian nose. Drying on the palate and finish. Appears well made but clearely not my style.
