A: Deep Purple. High viscosity N: Iodine, black pepper, smoke, plum, black cherry, vanilla, baking spice, sweet tobacco and camphor a little later on in the tasting P: Dry, medium (+) acid, medium (+) tannin, high alcohol , medium (+) intensity and finish. C: BLIC? Ticks for length and intensity but my goodness this alcohol is not integrated and so felt a bit off kilter. Half mark for complexity and so a Very Good Quality wine. Has the structure to improve with ageing.
Guesses: I thought this was new world owing to the extraction and alcohol. I thought that it was 2015 and was either Syrah or a Malbec. I couldn't find the chocolate of a Malbec but the purple colour seemed consistent with both. Some of the better quality malbecs are quite smokey and I didn't spot the black pepper until after the reveal and so went with Malbec.
Mistakes: should have gotten the pepper earlier. I think that I have been missing it a lot lately

Drank last weekwith pulled pork BBQ. No formal notes but I remember this mostly as being unremarkable. Restrained fruit and a little spice with a medium body and finish.

We drank these earlier. I remember they were ok but not spectacular.

Surprisingly good. Tasted along side some other Syrah. This had an earthy nose, but very nice fruit and overall nice balance

Dark fruit. Soft tannins. A style of Syrah anyone will drink.
