(Drouhin Joseph Clos de Vougeot) Like all these Clos de Vougeots there’s deep core of colour. The nose has width and high, faintly alcoholic tones but also beautiful red fruits and violets though you destroy the picture if you swirl. A mouthful of perfume, fine but forward acidity, little obvious tannin, yet a very long finish that is borne on the vintage acidity. If you give it sufficient time - more than 2 hours - the mid-palate really fills out with dimension such that the acidity is apparently more balanced. I winced, but I really enjoyed it. Day two the palate is fuller and less pain-inducing - even better!

Crimson Red with bricking towards the edges. More red fruit aromas than one might have expected.Less tertiary development...Red fruit up front with a hint of savory flavors (forest floor).. Nice length, but without great intensity on the finish. Ghosts of the aromas. Enjoyable.

1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The Third Session (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): Medium expressive nose displaying bright sweet red fruit, strawberry candy, fresh raspberry, coffee, sap and limestone dust. Fully integrated yet youthful palate, finely layered bright red fruit, slightly lean, bright acidity, good limestone mineral, a hint of fine tannins and a medium to long bright red fruit driven finish. Good showing.

Lovely, lovely wine. Beautiful nose, dusty dry raspberries and sweet cherries with a hint of underbrush on the palate. Very Drouhin.
The first 1996 I've had which I'd describe as fully ready to drink.
Consumed at Heirloom Kitchen in Old Bridge.
