2001 NINO NEGRI SFURSAT 5 STELLE, SFORZATO di VALTELLINA- this had a streak of coconut throughout which is not one of my favourite tastes so judge my notes accordingly; talc, dark chocolate accented black cherry also come in and give me at least a more acceptable taste profile; it finished with more coconut than what was initially present and I spontaneously searched for the flakes in my glass; there were none.

Very intense Nebbiolo nose: brick dust, roses, sour cherry and fennel. Slightly off-dry on the attack, with balanced acidity. Super-intense and concentrated: loads of cherry, cola, roses, showing a bit of dried leaves and dark coffee on the mid-palate. Tannins are very soft, leaving only a slight bitterness on the finish. Very long length. Wow!

This bottle provided much enjoyment, consistent with others of this producer. Very dense and rich, and approachable for a wine from the nebbiolo grape. A wine worth seeking out.

Deep dark nebbiolo nose with cherries, raisins, chocolate, spice and oak - but not the expected level of autumnal tertiary notes, actually the impression is quite undeveloped. Palatewise highly concentrated with fullish body, good fresh acidity, smooth tannins and layers upon layers of aromas. Only (important) objections are 1) that it saw a bit too much new oak during its upbringing, and 2) that the 15-plus alcohol begs for attention on the finale. Still surprisingly young, this '01 Sforzato seems set to cruise for at least ten years more - maybe twenty - in a proper cellar/cabinet.

Excellenty aged, marvellous brownish.
Raisins and sweetness that lingers on and on.
