Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 88 points

  • Decanted 1 hour. Quite loud and juxtaposed aromatics: from mocha to violets, with minor notes of red-purple rhubarb, red cherry and marmite. Quite a big charge of acidity, which is out of balance with the very finessed, lacy tannins. Structure isn’t integrated and/or filled out; so S read this wine as light. I thought the acidity was driving the flavours a fair bit; so it had adequate effective intensity for me. Distinctly, though, another case of not drinking a wine at a mature peak… which I’m increasingly seeing as meaning missing out. Flavours are the more natural and floral side of the boiled-sweet Burg fruit. A pleasant sour, tangy finish; if not v long. Lacks width; yet doesn't have corresponding virtuous mineral linearity. There isn’t the concentration for a special / long-term maturity. Perhaps a 90pt peak in 2013. 88 to 89 now; 88.
