Lovely nose of tar and roses and cedar. Classic nebbiolo with some age. Palate is tart, dark fruit with tobacco and smoke and nice acidity, with a nice hit of tannins.

Perhaps this was an off-bottle, at any rate a dismal showing. Nicely aromatic upon opening, but tired, raisiny, and like dead weight on the palate. Not apparently heat-damaged or oxidized, but seemed to sag even further as it sat in the decanter. Absolutely none of the elegance, lift, and ethereality of a Gattinara by Antoniolo or Carema from Ferrando. I can't help but think this bottle was marred somehow, so I'll be following subsequent notes closely to see if I should revisit this.

Slow-O 2 hours, aerated 1 hour then served at cellar temp. Lightly floral nose, with distinct almond, pine tree and herb notes wrapped around a core of black cherries. Faint bitterness on the palate, with solid lift and an extended finish that amplified the complexity and enjoyment. Traditional but not to the point of being rustic. Highly enjoyable, recommended and a nice surprise. Drink thru 2018

Really fresh young bottle. Great with food but give it 30 minutes of air. Long life ahead.
