Full yellow. Stone fruit scents. Full and glycerine. Deep, dry peach, some tea, outstanding acidity and soil. Powerful and very little secondary development. Outstanding.

Sigh. After pleasant past experiences with Nikolaihof, I was very much looking forward to opening this bottle this weekend.
I am sad to report that this is either past its prime or suffered from some premox. Nose and palette were both muted in the extreme, barely any discernible note, and not even a touch of minerality coming through.

Dinner at Hermosa (Chicago, IL): Maybe I'm starting to slowly come around to Austrian riesling. This was quite nice and reminded me a fair bit of Trimbach's white label bottlings. Though it's definitely a fatter wine, there's enough acidity to cut through the ripe fruit. A touch of herbs supplements the ripe fruit, and there's definitely plenty of minerality hiding on the back end too.

Golden like a wedding ring, but it changes and the last glass is significantly lighter. This sometimes happens with these semi-natural wines. Harmonious and somewhat subdued nose of baked lemon and baked herbs. In the mouth the harmony goes on. It is delicate and softly spoken. However, there is a flash of oxidation at the end of the taste curve. Short but unmistakable. This is likely to be mature oxidation rather than premature given the age, but I had thought it would last longer. A good wine, but on the way down. This was the last bottle, fortunately enough.

Spectacular. Among the best dry Rieslings I've ever had.
