  • Brilliant medium yellow color. Just a gorgeous wine, though subtle and understated. Nose is floral and tropical fruited with a chalky note. Palate varies between apple and pear flavors and tropical fruits like pineapple, mango and some vanilla and caramelized sugar. Bright acidity that is mouth watering, and yet the wine is soft on your palate with a really nice texture. Long luxurious finish. Still youthful and probably LL live well for another 5 years or more. Love this, but sadly my last bottle.

  • Lovely brilliant yellow color. Nose has a smokiness to it along with a brown butter aroma that is balanced by a little honey and hard to identify under-ripe fruit. Bright acidity keeps it fresh tasting but neither too fruity nor too tart. Palate expresses a hard to identify fruit that I will call under-ripe honeydew melon and the finish has some under-ripe pear. Very nice but hard to nail down the flavors for me.

(Hirsch Grüner Veltliner Lamm) ($57.00) The ‘10 is just stunning. My first true taste of this masterpiece. A brooding, mysterious, dark wine, almost opaquely dense — decant for two hours at least — doughy and determinedly taciturn — the antonym to Gobelsburg’sLamm. This one has a pachyderm grace. + (+)

(Hirsch Grüner Veltliner Lamm) ($56.00) As fine as wine can smell. GrüVe at its regal noblest best. Amazing brightness and lift for such a rich wine. Stern, adamant finish, ferrous and strict and muscular. The palate is less “sweet” than the aromas, but this will have many more months on the fine lees, but – the most potential since the ’04, I think.
