(Not a) birthday dinner (Hinsdale, IL): Probably slightly cooked with a dirty profile. Obviously nowhere at the level of the bottle I had a few years ago.

Beautiful and complex nose of dark cherries, sweet fruit, game, smoke, plum, and violet. Lots of acidity on the palate with excellent balance and notes of dark fruit, cherries, and a bit of leather. The tannins are still grippy and add structure. Very long finish. Amazing experience to drink this, the nose itself is to die for. A complete wine.
Opened and poured - no decant. I was really looking forward to this, and while I enjoyed the wine, there were no fireworks for me. Aromatics were more muted than expected, on the palate it was silky, with red and black fruits, but the acidity seemed a bit more prominent.

Intronizzation Night for Rhone (Lafayette): Probably my WOTN. It was just lovely. All dark fruits and game and a bit of that iron-ore style minerality. Very elegant and very powerful all at the same time. Beautiful wine.

Intense, deep Cornas smoke dark plum fruit, powerful. Very good, but not phenomenal. Cellared since original release.
