My favourite wine of the evening. Best bouquet of the evening, in my opinion... Violets, smoke, white-peppers, spices, this continued to evolve thr' the evening. Palate followed similarly, with freshness/lift to boot.

Double decanted, mainly to remove sediment (there was quite a bit). I’ve probably had half of dozen of these over the last 7-8 years, and this continues to drink very well. Classic Allemand with so much energy and class. No rush here.

Allemand v Chave Los Angeles edition: Very high toned va driven nose with bright purple fruit and pepper. THe palate is cool yet laden with ample fruit and that classic allemand fruit and minerality combo runs well in the wine. Not quick as deep as the 07 tasted the same night, but the VA seems to give it a bit more of a brightness.

Nose is similar to the 06, if a bit less intense, the same wild bramble/spice/violet; palate shows nice, deeper blue fruit, slightly lighter than the 06 and 12 tonight, with lovely, lightly complex flavors of boysenberry, spice, violets, a bit more obviously tannic than the other two, maybe because the palate intensity isn't quite there to mask the tannins. Still, a beautiful wine, from a somewhat outlier vintage.
And for interest, a note from release in 2011: slightly sweet nose, deep dark black/boysenberry, decent fruit, some richness, fairly structured, brooding.

Allemand vs Chave (Kitchen Istanbul): Noticeably lighter on the nose than the other wines with violets, cherries, flowers, and maybe a slightly musty note. Good acidity with tart cherries, dark fruit, and blackberries on the palate. Good finish. A nice wine, but not quite as complex and put together as I remember it from 5 years ago...

(Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard) Very dark purple red violet color; deep berry, dried berry, mineral, subtle pepper, lavender nose; dense, tasty, a little tight, tart plum, lavender, green herb, mineral palate; needs 4-plus years and will go 15-20; long finish
