Amarone tasting (at my home): Color: Deep ruby red with garnet hues Nose: Warm, ripe on the nose, intense and of great refinement. Notes of dried black fruits, prunes, raisins, figs, chocolate, tobacco, and spices. Palate: Complex, smooth, full-bodied, lots of cherry notes and plum. The tannins are well-integrated and the acidity is balanced. Finish: Long, lingering finish with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and spice. Overall: This is a beautifully made Amarone with a great balance of fruit, tannin, and acidity. It is a complex and elegant wine that will continue to improve with age.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Some sediment in the screen. During decant aromas not dissimilar to Jaegermeister came forth. Wine was clear; dark ruby bowl slightly lightening to rim with a small clear halo. After resting, nose of anise, forest floor and stewed prunes. In the mouth: deep black fruit, black licorice, and green bell peppers. As the evening progressed, the bell pepper aroma subsided until it popped back up with a vengeance as the meal ended (about 3.5 hours after decant). While still enjoyable with food, it seemed to be past its prime and starting to decline. The finish was moderately long of the licorice. Time to drink up!
